England footballer Danny Rose 'regularly stopped by police and asked if his car is stolen'

I very much imagine many footballers get stopped. They are often young lads (even teenagers) driving 50k+ cars.

The very nature of that will get you stopped no matter what colour you are. Also the very blacked out windows probably don't help.

We have a lad at work who's 22. He recently got a Audi S3 on finance. He's been pulled over 3-4 times in a couple of months. The usual response is 'that's a nice car' from the police and ask what he's up too etc. They just think he's a drug dealer😂

He's white. Clearly being pulled over for a different 'stereotype' of young lad in S3 = dealer. I don't see him bleating over social media.

I am sure most people would like Danny Roses 'problems'.

This is a good point.

Supposing a survey found 90% of ticket dodgers in the 1st class carriage of a train were found to be teenagers.

Should the ticket collector concentrate his time on checking teenagers' tickets?

You'd probably say 'yes', even though that would be profiling and prejudging teenagers as being 'ticket dodgers'.

Teenager profiling, racial profiling - it's the same thing.

Borodave, I had this argument with my sister in law last summer when she said the same as you. I like to think we are only a generation or 2 away from getting rid of racism in this country. It get's a little better all the time. Granted it has to get a lot better, but if I compare today with the 70's and 80's growing up, things have improved so much.

That's an awful situation for him, I can understand his frustration.

Is there a record of the outcome of his formal complaint(s)?

Imagine the train ticket scenario I put forward just now - you don't have to stretch that far.
Are you familiar with the phrase "false equivalence"?

Equating age with skin colour is a perfect example, to put it as simply as you seem to need, you don't grow out of being black.

I’ve been stopped a few times by the police in my younger days, once for speeding but he let me off with a rollicking, once because I was on the A19 early hours and he was ‘checking’, let off again, and once got breathalysed for being parked on the side of a road talking to a girlfriend but I hadn’t been drinking so got let off again.
Now I’m not saying there isn’t racism around but I am ‘white British‘ and still got harassed for no reason by the police. It is the world they are in and in fairness they have a lot to put up with at times.

No I haven't heard that phrase before, though when educating simpletons like me, please don't be supercilious, it makes you sound bad.

I do not think that the police force in this country are racist. In fact, I believe the whole force is not. There may be some racists as there are in all walks of life and they need weeding out but I do not think the police is a racist organisation.
If he gets stopped for the only reason is he’s black then the force should look into it as every stop should be recorded.

It’s shameful really, so many posters looking to minimise the core issue and his reality. Sad that folks can’t empathise and imagine being in his shoes. Could be rich or poor or young or old, but always black.
Just to clarify I’m not trying to minimise the core issue of racism but I do think there is a bigger picture with the police and how they operate and some of the people in society of any colour that they have to deal with.
