Surprised no one has mentioned the Divine Ponytail.
BTW, the Netflix movie about him is excellent, imho.

Easy for you to say!Another vote for Edson Arantes Do Naciemento aka Pele.
He couldn’t do a backflip so used to do a somersault after he scored…Rodney Jack. Many will never have heard of him. He used to play for Torquay, and I used to get to see his weekly exploits on Westcountry TV. He was just too good for the Division 4. or league 2 or whatever it was called at the time. In his career he never made it to any club more exotic that Crewe. I don't quite understand why.
It's just the first name that came to my head when looking at the question.
I appreciate much of Ronaldinho's charm was about entertainment but how many players have won the World Cup, Champions League and Ballon d'Or (as well as multiple league titles)? He's in a very elite club on that one (of which Bobby Charlton, Zidane and Messi are also members).Edit - purely for entertainment purposes, can't disagree with Ronaldinho either!

I know you weren't suggesting this, but he was far more than style over substance.
I lived for football and practiced or played every single day.
There is nowhere near enough as much football as today I agree, but there was our weekly feeds. I used to buy any readable football books, facts & records.
I used to watch Football Focus, On The Ball, I watched Best Laws and Charlton a number of times Live at the Boro and Man City,WHU, Spurs in the cups. I watched as my first game at AP English League V Scottish League. Jimmy Johnston, John Grieg, Bobby Lennox, The WHU trio of Moore, Peters, Hurst. and the follow up game in 1972.
During the 70s onwards I have and I'm sure you have seen all the top British internationals and fringe players.
The Home Internationals were a fixture on TV
The Big Match
Midweek Match league cup of other teams and Saint and Greavsie
UEFA English sides were often live on TV
The goals and good bits of play all European Championship competitive games were either live or replayed.
Shoot or ITV regional English games were often highlighted.
Plus I very rarely missed a home live game and went away very often.
There was always plenty of football on TV or go to the game.
Atm I think historically we would have to go back to the late 40s to compete with the crowds we get today or since 1995. I was in odd great gates over the years at AP, but most of the league games in the 1960s waxed and waned from 7k to 15k depending on signings(at anytime then) or a run of results
The only big home one I wasn't at as I wasn't old enough was Oxford Utd 1967.
I have Virgin with all the football as my son and grandson love watching the PL, but I rarely watch any TV football now.
I don't see it like that personally. Too much tribalism and passion for me to be entertained.Purpose of football is for entertainment first and foremost!
