Tense atmosphere

Carrick said in the post match interview that the tense atmosphere in the first half didn't help the team. How does a crowd not be tense if its been a frustrating half?

It often feels worse to the players on the pitch when the crowd get a bit restless. Particularly if it’s not going well. Thankfully everyone got over it and we won.

There was a tense atmosphere for no reason. People didn't like the changes and thought it gave them the right to whinge and moan pretty much from the off. I can't understand what makes people behave like that.

Some people in the North were doing my nut in tonight. Within 15-20 minutes you could hear the grumbles and shouts.

Mainly when the centre backs had the ball at the back and were keeping possession. It was clear as day that Cardiff were happy to sit back and frustrate. Spent a good chunk of the half sat in their own half. If the forward passes aren’t always on, we need to manipulate and try bring the opposition onto us. I might seem a bit slow, but the opposition can’t do anything with the ball if we’re in possession.

We’ve played in similar fashion for nearly 12 months and some people still don’t get it. Sure some would just prefer us to whack it up the pitch and hope for the best.

But I agree with Carrick. It’s not helpful. We need to be patient at times.

We have a lot of 🦕 s amongst our fans unfortunately but so do all clubs.

We look as safe as I have ever seen us playing out from the back though so I really do not get the moaning and groaning.

We want to pull a side onto us so that we can play passes into the spaces behind, it worked well tonight.

Unfortunately some people are too thick to understand. It is not their fault really.

By being patient and maybe, just maybe supporting the team . First half was embarrassing to hear, the players are trying to keep the ball and play good football, crowd are getting on their backs for absolutely no good reason. it happened sometimes last season, when we were playing our best football in decades. It’s because some of our fans are thicker than a Boxing Day turd.

The game was pedestrian in the 1st half and the atmosphere reflected that. Both performance and atmosphere were much better 2nd half.

Exactly. Some people go to the match with no intention of enjoying it. It’s just football fans, they’re an oddly varied bunch, many who feel way more qualified than they are.

North and East were on one early doors with the moaning.

I thought the South was quiet tonight apart from after the goals. Has been most of the season to be fair.

I didn't hear any of you lads getting behind the team. If you think the crowd should be cheering then so should you, it was quiet because it was a poor first half.

he was 100% right. after 10 minutes everyone (the North Stand) was getting anxious and moaning when we were playing it around at the back. do people not understand how we play?

and then the ironic cheers when McNair passed to Engel - what does that achieve?

Yes.

I do agree with CTC about the first half being poor and not worthy of any excitement.

But these people who go to the match and get on a particular player’s back from kick off purely because they don’t agree with their selection will never cease to amaze me. It’s not a majority of fans but it’s a baffling proportion all the same.

The crowd aren't out to achieve anything, if they're not happy then show it. It didn't do the team any harm and may have given them the kick up the @rse that improved them

Seemed to me that they were deliberately avoiding Engel for most of the first half. So pleased that he provided the cross for the first goal. That should help his confidence.
