Stop buying fake football shirts

First year I have ever dipped into the fake shirts and it is purely because the price vs quality is now ridiculous and I can’t justify it.

Bought the inter Miami full kit for my two lads for under £30 delivered total… not each… they are exactly the same as the real ones… even came with the correct tags.

The way my kids wear them I won’t be buying a real on for a very long time

Especially Boro ones.

You're hurting the club you supposedly love, and it's illegal.

(They're also mainly made using slave labour through human trafficking too, which is....y'know, bad)

Ok I've taken your advice on board and went on the MFC retail website to order both of my kids the full new home kit. It would have came to a total of £154 with delivery fee. One problem, everything is out of stock.

Ah well, back to the fakes for me.

Thanks anyway.

One of my relatives used to sell a lot of counterfeit clothing. Started off small, but soon developed contacts in China and was shipping loads of the stuff direct from the manufacturers.

95% of what he imported was from the exact same production line as the genuine stuff. Brands would sign a contract with a factory for a certain number of items, and had no way to really stop them making extras for the black market.

Two reasons I'm telling you this. First, quality of knock-offs is generally as good as the real thing because it essentially is the real thing. Only weakness is that they skip the quality control that might have rejected some items that were going to official channels. Second, the idea that this trade in any way helps fund organised crime is a myth put out by copyright holders. Drug dealers don't need knock-off clothes to make money, because they make money from drugs - the clue's in their name!
Exactly this. I've taught Chinese kids whose parents own textiles, garment and footwear factories. They supply much the same stuff to big brands as to counterfeiters.

Money from genuine replica shirts goes to the club.

Not sure how buying a fake instead isn't robbing the club.

Not to mention the whole moral aspect of it.

Just because you can't afford something (because you feel it is overpriced) doesn't mean it's right to steal it.
The mark-up on shirts in crazy and getting bigger every season.

Buying a fake one from China means your cash goes to some Chinese peeps, rather than the club.

I'm ok with that tbh.

When the club stop treating the fans like a commodity, maybe the fans might not seek better value elsewhere.?

It's not robbing anything from the club because I was never gonna buy any from the club. We have both neighbours and friends who have them from the club shop and the quality is shyte. names and numbers peeling off and the material clicks easily. They also cost a small fortune.

In comparison, we got both home and away full kits direct from Asia for ~£11 each. They look absolutely identical (as people above have said, it is usually the exact same production line) but the material seems to last better and the name/numbers certainly do (isn't peeling at all so must be applied much better on the dodgy ones).

In conclusion, it's not "robbing" if they are never getting a penny of my money anyway because of the greedy prices for a worse product.

The only fakes I've considered are the old "classic" shirts which, to the best of my knowledge, aren't available anymore. Fiorentina Nintendo etc.

My wife has been after an original Lowenbrau 1860 Munich for a while now but they usually go north of 500.

If the counterfeit shirts are much cheaper, then maybe they can't afford genuine ones. In which case no loss to the club.

Why do the club only sell them in the club shop ? I can't think any other club of our size or above would be so insular in thinking to effectively restrict sales of their own product, it just doesn't make any sense.

To be fair it’s not that dissimilar to saying “Don’t buy a burger outside the ground as the club are missing out on revenue. Don’t go to the pub beforehand when you can pay £5.50 for pint of Bud inside the cold concourse with a massive queue .”
Apart from a small matter of copyright/protected trademarks.

Yep, which isn’t really anyone’s problem other than the club’s.

As said above, if the club provided the best value on this service, no one would be sending money directly to China (which is where they’re all coming for anyway, it’s not like the official ones are made in a factory in Doggy).

I wasn't referencing the money. I was pointing out that the buying a burger outside of the ground wasn't the same as buying a counterfeit shirt.
P.s I don't waste my money on shirts from the club shop or counterfeit ones, and won't do until we have a sponsor who I'd be happy to advertise.

Fair enough, but I’m just making the point that most people aren’t really invested in the copyright argument, and probably see it as no different to buying a pint in Hit The Bar instead of the concourse.
