Kids meals

Seriously though, no issue if someone wants a kids meal for themselves, just do what Ricky Gervais’ character did on After Life. Bit daft asking to present your kids first. What if you’re getting a take away and they’re not with you?

I agree re the OAP special though, it’s a nice little bonus for the elderly to get a good deal.

This was it kids were on the seafront while the adult were queuing. Was mental I thought. Guy said his boss was in 🤣🤣

Should kids meal on menus only being able to ordered for children.

Was at a chip shop yesterday and parents had the present their kids before being able to order a kids fish and chips

surely you are paying for the portion size, it shouldn’t be restricted who can order it
Ridiculous. My partner always gets a kids parmo from takeaway cos she’s says it’s enough. If you are ordering face to face it should be the same

On the subject of kids meals why in even decent restaurants are the kids meals often rubbish like chicken nuggets, sausage and chips etc? You go abroad and they'll knock up a small version of a main menu item.
Probably because that's the ***** most parents feed their kids 😂

Just been booking somewhere for girlfriends dads birthday and had to avoid all the Michelin places and go with a gastropub as her niece will only eat burgers parmos or pizzas 👀

On the subject of kids meals, how expensive have they got in restaurants. You're looking at 8 or 9 quid now and all they get is fish fingers chips and beans

Most places will do a small version of a regular meal for you if you ask. Depends what it is though. They can't do small versions of things like a chicken breast or a steak but they can do small versions of pasta/curry type dishes easily.

Kids can be fussy and even though they will often eat something new sometimes they just wont and it's not worth spending £8+ on something they won't eat. We're quite adventurous with what we give the kids at home but when we're out they'll usually have a burger or whatever else is on the kids menu but it's a treat because they don't get that stuff at home.

The reason you aren't supposed to order kids meals for an adult is because they are essentially subsidised.

OAPs shouldn't get discounts either. They are pretty much the wealthiest demographic these days. Offering discounts to get them in at less busy times is fine but just giving them a discount for the same product is outdated. Pensioners are not the paupers they used to be.

It's baffling. Surely when kids are developing and growing is a time where healthy food is most beneficial?
Sure our kids can be fussy at times, but they eat the same meal as us every night with a few minor mods. Kids only get overly fixated on rubbish if as you say that's what you always feed them

(I recognise that for some there's a big issue with the cost of food which is an issue in terms of providing a decent diet)

Yeah some place will do it, but there's also a lot where it's just not an option. Even ordering an adult meal and two plates to split between the two kids has been refused as an option for us before.

Obviously you wouldn't buy something they wouldn't eat, but any kids who eat decent food normally can stretch beyond tomato pasta or sausages etc

Annoying this is the case. We often end up buy one main meal for two children for this reason.
I don't stress if my kids choose to have chicken nuggets or some other crap when we are out because they generally eat healthy at home and we don't eat out often, but to not offer more adventurous options is annoying. Even if pubs just offered a child's curry or child's pasta dish etc as an alternative to beige food.

So say that's fine, order an adult meal then start dishing it up on the table for the kids, see how quickly they change there mind about small plates 😂

I've ordered a single adult meal and split it quite a few times without any problem, especially a pizza or similar, but another reason we tend to get the kids menu is it quite often comes with a drink and dessert. Once you add those on to an adult meal it can cost twice as much as the kids menu for the same thing.

Some years back I was in Devon and ordered two Sunday lunches for the wife and I and a child’s Sunday lunch for my boy. When his meal arrived they had cut the Yorkshire pudding in half. The boy immediately said to the waitress “what’s that” and told her to go and get him a full pudding.

What are you saving by cutting a Yorkshire in half?

As a flip side to that i've ordered kids sunday dinners before and they've arrived the same as the adults version. They said it was easier for the chef to to dish up the same meal than thinking about half sizes etc

That is bonkers. I think I'd have been tempted to walk out. Never had any problem anywhere ordering extra plates etc.

What next, saying your other half can't have some of the chips off your plate? 🤦‍♂️

I don't know if the Tree bridge still does it, but their half parmo used to called a "ladies parmesan" on the menu.

I ordered a few times, I was never asked for proof of gender.

Although I did once try to order it as the "half parmo" and the waiter immediately replied, with a smirk on his face, "do you mean the ladies parmesan?" 😂
