* The Unofficial "Official" 23/24 Championship Season. Boro v Millwall Match-Day Thread *

He's not posted anything sensible he's assuming we're going to sign 3 players that are senior first team players.

He's claiming Howson who's a year older is our best midfielder (well that's painful if true).

The fact is 80% of the teams we play will do this. Sit deep, pick us off on the counter.

Let's pray Akpom stays and is good.
Surely his comments are more sensible than people suggesting after 80 minutes of football that it’s going to be a ‘long hard season’.

Generally feel positive about our chances this season.. apart from one mistake and one incredible finish we've been ok today! Biggest concern for me is our terrible crossing / balls into the box and utter dross from corners!

Rodgers is a very green 'striker' learning the trade and positioning etc and hasn't been anywhere near any of our decent crosses all game. Silvera looks dangerous.. getting him and Jones fit and confident will give us a threat from both wings! We just need a target man (Chuba hopefully) and we will create chances.

First game - Players have been too sloppy today giving it away / that will change... As fans we're all a bit pent up and expectant after months with no Boro but i'm staggered at the doom mongering already!

As expected on here! UTB

There’s no getting away from it, we’ve been poor and we look light. How many games are there to play before the window closes?

Dunno how we went from a team where if we went behind I still felt confident we'd at least get a draw, if not win under Carrick, to this and the back end of last season where we go behind and just look toothless.

Two names missing for that, Akpom and Archer.

Upfront we’ve been toothless, like the look of Rodgers but he’s no centre forward.

If we don’t have Dijksteel or Smith back next week I’d 100% play Jones over McNair at right back, he’s done more attacking and defending in 5 mins than McNair managed in 90

Can you please not post anything sensible on here this afternoon… the doom-mongers have been waiting months to have another good old moan and to write our season off after 80 minutes of football.

Not sure if I'm going to be considered a doom monger or not. But I'm a bit old fashioned in that I'd prefer that we try to have a solid team in place at the start of the season rather than waiting 2 months to get that in place.

Against the run of play? I agree with your wider point but Millwall fully deserve to be winning, we're lucky they haven't scored 2 or 3.
Don't know about that mate. Shots are pretty even, we've dominated possession and passes and should have been 1-nil in front regardless as a perfectly good goal got chalked off for us.
I wouldn't say it was against the run of play they scored as I thought the teams were about level pegging, but to say we were lucky they weren't 3 up is ridiculous. It's a tight game, both sides looking rusty and it could have gone either way.

Fortunately that's with us having in effect half a team, so a full strength side in 5 or 6 weeks should be able to do most sides in this league. Provided we don't give the rest of the league more than a 6 game head start this year we should be fine.

Starting the season so far away from where we need to be is frustrating, will be ever try and get the work done before kick off

I think we all would but if the players we want aren’t available yet for whatever reason what do we do? We certainly don’t just go out and buy any old bod who’s available for the sake of it.

When we cross the ball it feels like there's no plan to it, there's nobody in the box willing to be clinical, just **** it hopefully it falls to someone's foot or head. Same with the passing, just passing the ball for the sake of it with no end product.

Awful game and next to no chances created. Need at least 3 new players otherwise it will be a nothing season. The fact that Millwall creates more chances than us at home speaks volumes

Two average championship sides.
Not much between us and them and it could have gone either way.
Like Dieng Like Silvera
They created very little.
We created nothing.
