Train station at the Riverside?

I've always wondered why they have never created a matchday stop at the Riverside, Would benefit a lot of supporters plus wouldn't it be easier for the police regarding away supporters? especially if we are expecting big away followings

We only get big away followings a couple of times a season really unless we get promoted, it’s a great idea though.

Logistically, the train operator would have to run a shuttle service with a need for a six carriage platform. They wont do that. To be effective - with the potential to move thousands of fans quickly, the current rail infrastructure and the platform / signalling system couldnt accommodate an intensive service which would be required.

On days of big followings, after the match anyway it would only be open to away fans, it would keep many from walking back into town. Before the game it would be open to both sets of supporters.

Buts it's possible and hopefully would happen as a part of move towards a Teesside Metro. Sunderland have the St Peters Metro and the city center train station they both take a large number of fans on match day.
That’s exactly why there isn’t one. It would be a flare point for the police and so close to the bulk of supporters on match day.
It's worked at Millwall, the flashpoints usually come the other way into town, but as above make it only for away fans after some big games.
And the cost. And how would they collect fares?
You hope the train provider would be able to allocate some extra staff as they at other places usually everywhere around the UK, in addition to have ticket barriers which is the norm now.

There used to be a station at Cargo Fleet, just a stone's throw from the Whitehouse level crossing.

Although it closed in 1990, the platform wasn't removed until 2002, long after the Riverside was built.

Cleveland County Council tried to save the station, citing the New Stadium as a reason, but the Department for Transport were having none of it, and made sure the closure wasn't averted.

This link has all the info on the station and some good photos: disused-stations.org.uk

Under a Labour government as well what chance does Teesside have if both sides neglect it.

"Teesside Metro".
You`re looking twenty years ahead and there`s more chance of Ben Houchen running naked through the Cleveland Centre, than a metro. (n)

When the Riverside was opened the cost of bringing Cargo Fleet station up to scratch was £500,000 - a non starter.

I went to Athletico Madrid they have an underground Subway stop directly next to the staidum works really well be great for boro to have something like this. But as others said won't happen until a Middle East with unlimited wealth takes us over

Being in a major capital city helps.

That is right but the club do need to work more closely with public transport to make the experience better so more people decide to use public transport to get to the match instead of driving. I live near Darlington have got the train a few times a season but every time I do I remeber the reason why I don't get it every week as it's a chew on. They don't put enough carriages on so you end up standing up. It's almost always delayed. .

Yeah delays aren’t good but I don’t think standing up would be a rarity getting to an Atleti match.

I went to a match at the San Siro in Feb and was amazed how you can walk out at full time and hop straight on a tram with no queueing etc. Did have to stand up like.
