Channel Migrants (Admin advisory. Contains disturbing image and repulsive views)

It isn't so much left and right as compassion or lack of.

Compassion has it's limits even to the most generous of people. The French obviously have greater compassion in assisting or at least allowing these ILLEGAL immigrants to to escape from their unsafe haven

The perfect solution would be to have a two tiered tax system then everybody wins. The basic system where people pay what they have to and then a optional levy that people like r00fie can pay extra directly towards housing and feeding these economic migrants. These people can get the help they need and only those that want to pay and can pay towards them do so. It would allow people like r00fie to feel vastly superior to everyone else too. I suspect a lot of people that say we need to help these people though don’t actually want to pay themselves, they want everyone to pay, it’s a bit like the multimillionaire Geldof who I’m assuming is still waiting for those asylum seekers to move into his house. It’s all irrelevant to me anyway, I work in aviation so along with 10% of the population come October I probably won’t be paying any tax for years.
We should all be paying towards helping refugees because We as a country, due to our various military/foreign policy interventions, are responsible for creating a lot of the circumstances they're escaping from.

why don’t you want to help other people who are not as well off as you in the world? Nobody has asked you to pay anything extra?

Who as a dad wouldn’t do what those on the beaches of France are doing? If your home was bombed out as foreign forces crushed the regime operating in your county then abandoned you with no long term solution so radical fundamentalists can take control only for the fighting to return what would you do? You look for safe haven, a place to relocate to that you hope will have a crumb of humanity and compassion for your situation- places where Dad’s like them would empathise with their situation. People have been told Britain is such a place. A compassionate world would come together to find a solution that ultimately aims to make remaining at home bearable but as an interim shares the responsibility for re-homing desperate people. Sadly in recent years as a country we have not played our part in developing this global response. As a result more desperate people have turned to more desperate alternative options and a horrible but incredibly lucrative industry of illegal immigration gang masters has developed . Boats will continue to come until we fully engage in an international response instead of only getting angry and interested when it lands on our shores. Take a look at what other countries far less able to help them than we are, places like Greece, have faced for years. As a government we didn’t care in playing a full and positive role in helping and now we reap what we sow. As someone said this is about man’s humanity to his fellow man.

Yes we should. Foreign aid. Help them rebuild in their homeland and save them the perilous journey.

Not everybody who comes has had their country bombed and looted by us. We have ****ed up the middleeast and we have Blair and labour to thank for that. Who’d have thought it? Left wing labour going to war on lies.

You make a valid point though in that there are genuine cases and we must manage that carefully.
That's probably the most ignorant and naive comment I've ever heard regarding conflict in the Middle East.

Great post like your previous one Duffman

I just choked on my tea. You are the leftest right winger I know of.
It's actually possible to have right wing values on things like crime and punishment, economics and the like but not hate other humans. That's where I am.

Maybe the left/right divide is simplistic for you but it's nuanced. To call me left wing shows you either don't understand the naunce or you don't understand me.

A few weeks ago the government announced 3 million people from Hong Kong can come to the UK, yes 3 million, no one has said a word (and I'm not disagreeing that they should be able to) a few hundred people in boats risk their lives to come here and some people are in uproar and some would see them dead.

There has also been some wonderful responses full of humanity, that give me hope.

Exactly. There are obviously a few devotees of Farage and the right wing tabs, who have outed themselves on here.

Not really no. I'm right wing but I don't hate humans so can't bring myself to hate people trying to escape wars and oppression.

I repeat
So, they are escaping war and danger.

Good job our fathers and grandfathers didn't run to the US, Canada, Aussie et al in 1939.
