So he has one big move left in him. We'd be buying at the height of the market and would never get the outlay back. He's 28
In the modern game, young players with promise sell for my re than players in their prime.
I think this is because of resale value and contracts.
Gyokeres is only 25 now. Had he flopped at Sporting, they'd still have been able to move him on and recoup a large slice of their investment.
A player in his prime will be looking for a big 4 year contract. If he flops, you are stuck with him. See Britt as a prime example.
I'd expect Blackburn to demand around the same as we got for Chuba (1 year older, but 1 year more on his contract). We can't afford that, but I wouldn't pay it if we could.
Getting Chuba back might actually be cheaper, and a safer bet as we know he can flourish in our system. I expect him to be too expensive too though.
Giles is signing for Hull permanently in the summer. Its part of the loan deal. Not sure on the fee though.Yeah, suppose you're right about that, especially for higher level young lads, but lower levels they can still be picked up fairly cheaply, especially those who haven't developed as much as some had hoped. It's just as easy for a young lads valuation to halve, as it is to double. Look at Giles, he was worth probably what 8m when he was here? He's done nothing in a year now, so that could be back down to ~£3-5m. He's only had one assist all year, and it's not like he's the greatest defender in the world. I'd have him back for £4m though, but don't think Hull will be able to afford that and Luton may need to off-load if they come down.
I didn't think Gyokeres was a risk either, that was one of the main reasons I wanted him, even if he didn't work out for £15m or whatever, we would have easily still got £10m for him, as he was still quite young and the attributes he has you just don't "lose", unless you have a major injury, but that's the risk you need to take.
Szmodsic is getting on a little bit, we wouldn't be getting any money back for him unless we had him a year and then shifted him on, but that doesn't make much sense for us unless we were really pushing for promotion and giving it everything we've got. I don't believe we have the cash to take that risk. If we got into the prem he probably wouldn't be good enough in his role to be able to keep us up, we would need someone a higher level than that I expect.
Chuba won't come back, he's gone up a level and won't be keen on coming back down. It's not his fault Ajax are shyte, he's still more than good enough for the top level of their league, and too good for the champo.
Yeah I know they have an option to buy, wasn't sure if they had taken it up, he doesn't seem to have been getting loads of minutes recently.Giles is signing for Hull permanently in the summer. Its part of the loan deal. Not sure on the fee though.
Gyok was no risk I agree and a mistake not to get him in summer 2022.Yeah, suppose you're right about that, especially for higher level young lads, but lower levels they can still be picked up fairly cheaply, especially those who haven't developed as much as some had hoped. Same position as jack clarke wondering whats happening there. Why would he sign for Sunderland when they don't even have a manager in place for next seasonSzmodics Will cost over £20 million and definitely go to one of the promoted sides or newly relegated at worst
Willock is signing for Sunderland

Jack Clarke is likely off this summer. West Ham have been linked.Same position as jack clarke wondering whats happening there. Why would he sign for Sunderland when they don't even have a manager in place for next season
A lot less than Sheffield united will want for himWonder how much Villa will want for Archer.
There's a clause that he goes back to villa for a certain fee now SU are relegatedA lot less than Sheffield united will want for him
The same Forss who himself has injury issues this season. We have struggled with injuries with all our strikers and we need more strength in depth in that dept.Shame that Coburn's missed a lot of the season. If he'd had a few more games and had no injury problems I would have been happy to go with Latte Lath and him as the main strikers next season.
Still would have Forss for back up.
It almost feels like some people haven’t paid attention to the clubs policy on signing players these last few windows doesn’t it.So he has one big move left in him. We'd be buying at the height of the market and would never get the outlay back.
