Zwift alternatives

Since the increase I've tried a few other apps and my Zwift membership will expire this month. £18 just feels a bit high when I can only really get on it twice a week (ie £2 a session).

BKOOL - tried this and thought it was awful. UI wasn't easy and couldn't quite see any benefits despite it having good reviews.

Kinomap - not tried yet, keep meaning to

Rouvy - tried this a few times, lots of 'routes' but they're just videos filmed by users and not all that intuitive I found. Its not a bad option but I wouldn't say it competes with Zwift.

MyWhoosh - I loved this! As many 'worlds' as Zwift and equally good graphics I think. Plenty of routes and events and can't see any drawbacks versus Zwift. My only questions is - what's the catch? It seems to be permanently free as far as I can tell, and there isn't a load of adverts on it either. Anyone know?

Any other opinions about this?

I've set up MyWhoosh using the new Apple TV app they have just released. It was very easy to do and it seems to work really well from first impressions.
The only catch I can see is that the reason it is both good and free is that it is funded by UAE money, so by using it we are complicit in a bit of sportwashing I suppose.

Oh. So there is a catch! I didn't even realise. But what is actually in it for them?

I managed to sign up for a year contract on Zwift a week before they changed the pricing, so I’m gonna smugly sit and wait for the responses and your experiences with alternatives 😂

I genuinely think MyWhoosh is better. I'm just wrestling with the morality of it! Will I still be able to slag off Man City and Newcastle? I'm not giving them any of my dosh after all.

I just get zwift over the deep winter months, and try my best to man up for the other times of the year, but I also do other sport in winter so even when I do get zwift I barely use it.

There's a few threads on Reddit for zwift alternatives and people on reddit are usually pretty dedicated, no matter what the group is, so might find some good info on that.

Here's a recent one
Your turbo trainer might have just some training software on it so you can do a training plan, think my wahoo has something like that. Same as apps like trainer road also do training, but not the same thing for visuals etc, so would need to just do that to music or watch some tv to alleviate the boredom.

Can also get some gym memberships for £15-25, so similar price to zwift and some have peloton bikes or wattbikes etc which may be an alternative, as well as you can basically get to use other machines in with the same price which will relive boredom. Not quite the same as doing it in your house though. I did this last winter, the gym and a wattbike was more enjoyable to me than the cold garage etc.

Another obvious alternative is to just buy really good waterproof/ cold gear/ gloves/ overshoes and lights etc, and just do local laps outside on the roads you know are ok and maybe not go too far on long rides etc. I would like to think I could do this and I've got all the good gear, but I'm even better at finding excuses to not go outside in the cold.

Plenty of people recommended Dua Lipa as a Zwift alternative, personally I would opt for Lana Del Rey, but you pays your money and takes your choice.

I’m definitely taking Dua Lipa. LDR is a bit over the hill if you ask me.

Obviously neither compare to Ariana Grande.
