Clayton was was the one that stuck in my memory most: 17 championship goals in his previous 3 seasons prior to joining us (ok, 4 were pens before anyone points it out). Still, 13 open play goals is a solid contribution over that time. Never looked like replicating that here.

Buying players on goals/game at previous clubs is fools gold: it always comes at a premium, but the stats are non-transferable.

Nicky Bailey was a goal machine from CM for Charlton. I remember when we signed him thinking 'at last a goal scoring CM'😕

Howson used to be good for 5-6 at Norwich.
