Zohore !

I was reading that Sheffield Wednesday look like they have ‘won’ the race to sign Zohore from WBA

Not required at all by Bilic.
Massive wages and a non scorer for them.

A former player of Neil Warnock and heavily linked with us previously.
All links seem to have gone dead now.
Do you think Warnock has given up with this one ? And if so maybe a statement to say so like Sanogo’s.

Or......have we another wild card up Warnock’s sleeve?.

I like it that all signings this summer were not leaked until they were all practicably in the bag.

I'm not fussed about him. I think he's a 'unit' and played under Warnock so press put two and 2 together. He's on 50k a week so you'd pick up 50% minimum (and loan fee).

Sheff wed fans should feel lucky he can't buy him. They would pay 3 times what he's worth and have him sat on a 4yr 30k a week deal then leave for nothing😉 (Fletcher / Britt)

I didn't really see it happing after paying 2.6mil for Akpom. That would be 4 forwards on good money whilst only playing 2.

I think Warnock has said the 4th forward will be an academy lad from the prem. They will probably be on a couple of grand a week (at best). I still think we could do with a plan B 'unit'. That said most 18-19yr olds don't really fit that bill and most academys wouldn't want one.

Has Warnock not got the pulling power we thought he had?
Is it down to Bauser and co.?
Club not prepared to pay stupid wages?
Geography?
Current National situation?

We do not seem to be able to persuade many to join our merry band.

Zohore is not someone who excites me.

Seen him a number of times and he looks very average.

Don't think he'd be worth the outlay to be honest.

Glad we've 'missed out' on this one.

I really do not think it is down to Warnock in any way, nor location, Gibson or Bausor. I think the issue is money. We don’t have the ability to spend like before. To be fair lots don’t. This pandemic is the real reason football clubs are in such dire straights.
As awful as it is, some lower clubs could even have to allow their squads to be In part asset stripped to survive. I hope not and that the Premier League and/or Government intervene In some way. Allowing limited numbers in would be a start. Players on huge contracts wont take pay cuts. Premier clubs will want to get the biggest payment they can toward a contract. It is a game of cat and mouse on transfers.

Some well paid players will happily just do a Rudy and sit a season out counting their wages, some just want to play. Its a mess currently, but for once, not one that can be placed directly at the clubs door, but past mistakes are In part, now causing unforeseen consequences. The Pandemic is the elephant in the room

We can't expect big money signings like in the past, football in general, agents, players etc need to readjust , money outside the PL is no longer.
Us fans need to get a grip as well, its more about the preservation of our club and what it means to the culture and people of the region.
The pandemic has hastened what was already happening, that football was going bust.
Long live the Boro, that's my main concern.

I'm glad we ain't throwing wages at players. We gave over payed for far to many years and as a result we get stuck with players on big contracts that we can't move on.

Who would pay Britt / Fletcher / Saville etc what we do? You pay players stupid money and they sit and see out a contract (Rudy).

I would imagine we still pay well above the champo average. The likes of Blackburn / Millwall and PNE etc all buy cheap and pay are fraction of wages that we do. Yet remain 'competitive'

When Boro played Sheff UTD 2 years ago... Britt cost more than their entire match say squad. They were 3rd at the time and went up. That just puts our madness spending into perspective😕

We simply shouldn't have players on 25k+ a week for 4 years. Most champo clubs pay 10k at best. Everyone who comes to us from another champo side gets a massive pay rise (I'm sure I read Flint was on nearly 4 times as much as at Bristol City).

Yeh I agree I was furious at the money we spent under monk and the players we got for it. Absolutely diabolical decision making at all management levels in the club. You really don't need to spend a fortune in the championship you just need a good manager and a team that work hard for each other and keep it tight with a bit of pace out wide and up top you wont go far wrong. If wed have invested a small amount of that monk cash in getting a decent scouting team together we would have saved a fortune as nobody in the right mind would have paid what we did for average championship players.

I wasn’t aware of the alleged wages paid to Flint, but it sums up why he was moved on so quickly by Boro.

He wasn’t the player we thought he was and certainly not good enough for the wages he was paid.
( I can think if others too )

I see that he is not even in Cardiff’s first team currently.
He is now made for life on the back of two brief moves.
And two contracts that his agent must be amazed he got for him.

Basically a very average player.

I think he probably wasn't on much at Bristol City (I say 'much' loosely).

Lee Bowyer said last year 'you can't stop a lad from making 10k a week' or words to that effect when we bought Dijksteel.

So that pretty much shows how much he's on. It seemed a bit steap last year but he's looking a right player since lockdown👍

On 27 June 2018 we paid £7m on 19 July 2019 he went to Cardiff for £4m

and Tony Pulis goes on about how he came into the club and saved us financially!!

July 1st 2018 Adam Webster went to Bristol City for £3.5m

I cannot believe why Boro would not have seen Adam Webster as the far superior player and how Aden Flint was worth nowhere near £7m

I understand £3.5m was the initial fee but they ended up paying £8m to Ipswich for Webster. Still a great investment given the sell on profit to Brighton. In hindsight it would have been great to have acquired him but how do you know we didn’t inquire at the time and the player knocked it back with an offer from a southern club.

its hard to know.

I imagine we could have bought anyone of many top end champo CBs for 7mil. The only reason Flint was bought was his goals tally and use from setplays (pulis).

Yet Boro managed to do what we always do and turn people into none scorers. I just don't know how we do it? Saville scored 10 goals the season before he joined us. I'm not even sure he's had 10 shots😕

Flint was also 29. It's not ideal with that much outlay and 3yr contract (he's basically worth nothing at 32 had he stayed). I'm really not convinced we got the majority of the money back when we sold him. I think it was more just getting his wage off the books.

Flint at the time was simply a ridiculous signing at £7m.

Loads of fans at the time, both on FMTTM and social media questioned what the club were thinking in signing a 29 year old CB who has no pace and never played above this level, at £7m.

We were very fortunate we were able to claw some of that money back a year later by binning him to Cardiff.

A quite staggering transfer.

Fans do have wonderful hindsight but even the most hind of hindsight’s should have seen Flint as a poor buy given his fee.
