Your thoughts on the fixtures?

no surprises we're playing everyone in our division twice, I suspected we might.

Not sure if I'm going to love or hate that big gap nov-dec. 9 midweek games in the calendar before the season starts. Add in a league cup that's 10. If we get any cup successes, or cancelled games (covid/weather) then there could be some really tough spells where we need to utilise the squad.

Is what it is really. Excited for the first game and glad Boxing Day at home again and couple of good away days on a Saturday. Other than that it’s just playing the teams in the division which we knew about. More excited about the rest of the window and seeing how the squad shapes up before WBA

Do we insist on being at home on Boxing Day?

I'm sure I remember reading an article about it at some point and apparently the clubs can make a limited number of specific requests regarding fixtures. The EFL don't have to comply with them but will try to accommodate them as much as possible. I wouldn't be suprised if a home Boxing Day fixture is something we always ask for as you can almost guarantee a sell out with people visiting relatives etc.

Depending on Mick Lynch a couple of early London trips. Very pleased. (I count Reading in that)

I'm excited for Sunderland on the 3rd of September.

They've hoofed the Wear-Tees Derby thread today I noticed, so now the boring b**tards can continue the 'is it or isn't it a derby' debate on.

Will probably be 40 pages long by the time the game comes around.

I think a lot of them are actually agreeing it’s a derby. Just seems to be some self entitled Bellends who seem embarrassed to have been in league 1 for a good few years who are the ones claiming it isn’t.

It is a derby. It’s simple really

I think many of them go out of their way to say it isn't a derby because they think it irritates us, but what I found funny was one of their own fans commented and said it irrirates him when Sunderland fans try to downplay the rivalry. He said as a football fan surely you want as many rivalries as possible.

Yeah I seen that one, was a good comment that and bang on too.

Does rivalry not disappear or get lost over time? Weve not played the mags in a competitive fixture since 2009. Thats a generation of support who have yet to see a tyne tees derby in the flesh.

We havent played the mackems in nearly 5 years too. I enjoyed the seasons where us, leeds and the two up the road were all premier league.

This must be one of (if not) the longest period the big three north east teams have played in 3 different leagues (certainly in my life time and im 46)
