Reading some other threads had me thinking of past experiences outside us winning our 1st trophy, getting promoted/relegated.

Remember one time driving down to Brighton with a car full of mates, when they were still in the Goldstone. Setting off about 1 in the morning because I wanted to beat the traffic and didn`t really have a clue were I was going.
We drove straight down the A1, into London, out through Brixton and finally got to Brighton about 7 in the morning.
Car full of quilts as it was freezing even with the heat on.
Got there and nought was open and had to wait ages with nought to do until the shops opened and we could get something to eat.
Think we got beat but can`t remember other than it rained and when we got back to the car it just kept steaming up, think we got back about 2 in the morning
Worst away day ever for me

Another was when we played Arsenal at home in the cup and the fighting on the station platforms.
Remember some older lad throwing me into one of those old school type bins (the big round ones), telling me to hide as the older lads battled on the platforms, was pretty scary as a younger kid

Funny looking back though

What are your memories outside the normal ups and downs of following the Boro?

Wolves away when we got promoted to the first Premier League. All the reports while driving down of the fire and bombs in the pitch. Think we were fairly close to the midlands before we knew if the game was going ahead.

Might be inadmissible to the list because it involved promotion but wasn’t really anything to do with the match

Getting locked out of the City Ground as well.
Copper looking out on all the Boro fans from a window above and everyone singing “how much is that Bobby in the window”

Man City away in our first season up under Robbo (I think we won 1-0 with Barmby scoring the goal) ..

Anyway a gang of us went on the travel club and we were on one of those fancy coaches that had a small seating section downstairs at the back almost at ground level which we managed to commandeer.

Anyone who remembers that game may remember that Uwe Rosler, City’s German striker, spat his dummy out mid game when he felt his shirt was getting pulled, so much so that he took his shirt off and handed it to the linesman!

So after the game as we were slowly making our way through the traffic away from Maine Road a nice Mercedes comes to a stop at a T junction right next to our ground level coach window. We all look across and it’s Mr Rosler… cue lots of hammering on the windows and taking our shirts off to hand to him! As his car was pointing directly at our coach he couldn’t look anywhere else and had a face like thunder!

Probably one of those ‘you had to be there’ moments that was funnier because we were too many beers in but it gave us a laugh all the way home!

Man City away at Maine Road, loads of trouble outside the ground after the game. Me and Lizards Jumper having to leg it through back alleys to escape and ending up on the Curry Mile.
Getting herded in with other Boro fans by the police who were utter pricks that day and them trying to force us onto the train to Boro despite neither of us living anywhere near Teesside
