Who was your favourite player and why? I've listed a few below, you may know some others.

Phil Boersma
Billy Ashcroft
Archie Stephens
Peter Davenport
David Nugent
Craig Hignett
Adam Forshaw

Craig Hignett for me, thought he was a great player, who we let go too soon. Skilful, creative, energetic, scored goals too and seems to have a good personality.

Higgy, always! I remember everyone thinking us signing Juninho would be the end of him here. Then the Midget Gems happened.

The midget gems were prior to and during Juninho's first season weren't they? But that trio of him Barmby and super Jan probably bought him more time as Robson clearly didn't really fancy him but his form forced him to be selected.

It was almost a Pulis - Bamford situation (if I'm allowed to mention Bamford on here again!). For whatever reason the manager just didn't really rate him and no number of good performances were ever going to change his mind.

Cracking question Corco65, 3 club record signings there, Phil Boersma, Billy Ashcroft & Peter Davenport

I loved Craig Hignett & Archie Stephens, hard call between those two, cup finals for Higgy but once in a lifetime as a fan with Archie

Boersmas 2nd Boro game seen him pick up a winners tankard in the ASC final v Fulham, which I own, Billy Ashcroft made his Boro debut in the same game that was IMHO our best ever defenders final Boro game, the late, great Willie Maddren, away to WBA, also Cyril Regis, RIP, made a goalscoring debut

Sorry Corco65 for going off on a tangent

Damn. I have messed up. My head is hung in shame. Too much vodka and orange.

You're spoilt for choice there Erimus74, some great associations with some with lifelong memories.👍

Hignett for me. I remember jumping in my pea green 1L fiesta and driving to Oldham to see him make his debut.

I vagley remember him 'kind of' going clean through early doors and missing/saved. We got hammered 4-1 (again i think). Those were the days.... Seems a fecking life time ago😒

I also have a fond memory of going away to Goodison Park and standing behind the goal in a 2-2 where he bagged a brace. It was maybe boxing day? Defo Xmas as we had santa hats on. Great
Days 👏

Just a great player and servent. I was gutted he wasn't offered a new deal. He did enough.

*update... I doubted Oldham score so googled*. A cr*p away day lol.

Loved looking at that old Gazette match report. I forgot they used to sum up each individual performance in a few choice/random words. Can't help but think of them inside my head as being said in a booming x-factor style voice "Curtis Fleming - Aggressive tackler!"

As for the poll, all hail the Ginger Wrinkle.

Higgy for me. Great player and top bloke too. I played in one of the Bobby Robson charity games at the Riverside and he was on the opposition, you just couldn’t get near him. I was still quite fit back then and used to play football to a decent standard but he is head and shoulders the best player I have played against. His first touch was sublime and took him away from you before you’d even realised what was going on.

Bernie played in that game too and I can just remember thinking that he was so strong. I always thought I could have made it as a lower league pro when I was younger but playing against him and Higgy made me realise how much of a step up it was from semi pro.

Hignett is one of those players that played for us and wasn’t nearly as appreciated at the time as he is now. Just a perusal of all his goals for us is a perfect reminder of his importance in Boro’s history. It was criminal that he never played in the 1998 League Cup Final having scored the goal in the QF that effectively got us there.
