How would your Boro XI compare to Joe Nicholson's Xi in Hartlepool Mail?
He has gone for: Pears, Howson, Friend, Ayala, Fry, Clayton, McNair, Roberts, Coulson, Wing, Fletcher - I am just counting this 1 to 11 so Friend is left back and Coulson is playing in an advanced role attackin the box - Joe gives all his thinking in the ARTICLE

I wonder if we have more impact with two out and out forwards - with either Britt or Gestede up alongside Fletcher?

Possibly but I like the idea of McNair and Saville supporting from midfield , suppose for different games you could drop a midfielder and bring a striker in or bring Wing or Tav in aswell. Few options to be fair

Very true , if we deploy the wing back system he is a must start. If it’s 4 at the back I would have Howson over him though as I think he’s just that bit more defensible assured . Good options though
 
What happened to That side that went toe to toe with spurs in that thrilling cup saga.

as you say rob Spence gave us a spark on the right to balance coulsons.

It’s a tough balancing act tbf for Woodgate because I think Coulson is a better out and winger than he is wing back or full back and I think Spence is a better wing back than he is winger or full back so to get them both in the same team is actually quite tough

I think McNair needs to be one of the advanced midfielders , he’s not a sitter he likes to get forward and nick a goal and make late runs. Good team apart from that thou I like it
 
Is everyone fit and available for selection?

Hopefully Spence and Coulson have the legs to get up and down. I have no strong feeling on who plays upfront, Gestede will hold it up better, Britt is probably the most likely to score if he's interested, Fletcher is going to be here longer I'm assuming. I also think Tav or Wing would carry more goal threat from midfield, but I'm hopeful our 'big name' midfielders who have netted for previous clubs can re-find their old scoring touch.

Which it did a few times at home to Millwall this season & scoring a goal, unfortuantly it only lasted minutes & they equalised, but he showed in the right position, as against Charlton, hes a good player at this level

Yep, he needs to be utilised . He’s got a good engine on him and can run all day long and will always pop up in a position for a chance on goal in and around the box . He would be wasted in a deep poisition

if we had a right footer instead of Tav so he can come inside like Roberts on the other side that looks excellent as it would still leave Spence and Coulson plenty of room on the outside. I wonder if we could get a tune out of Morrison? Could be a role for him with not much defensive responsibility

Yeah, I can't understand why Morrison hasn't been given more opportunities. We've yet to see him play at the Riverside, which is bizarre really.

Don't know whether it's down to his application in training or just his general attitude but I'd like to see what he can do.
