I'm mainly going for the beer and know nothing about actual horse racing.

Are there any horse racing fans on here with good knowledge and some tips which horse to back on the day?

I'd recommend getting there early and finding a table!!! It's the busiest meet of the year and is full of drinkers. And watch out for the piles of sick as you walk back into York.

Weather looks good though!! Take your sunglasses!!

Horse furthest travelled can be a good one, especially if it’s a well known trainer and stables.

There’s a guy on Twitter called Racing Blogger who offers some good knowledge

Anyway I went horse racing last week at Great Yarmouth and didn’t have one win all afternoon.

So I wouldn’t ask me 😂

budget for each race. don't chase losses. if you plan on £10 a race over 7 races then be happy with the experience if you come home £70 down.

It will be rammed
Lots of drunk lads in suits and very drunk girls laid on the floor vulnerable and clueless as to where they are. Massive queues for a drink - it was about 45 mins last year and York afterwards and the train back to Boro not pleasant.
Used to love York but weekend meetings have become a really chav event sadly.
On the plus side Greatgadian should give you a run for your money in the big race

Had some bad experiences with the human detritus boarding at York on the way back from football.
Much worse than any football fans.

Thanks for the advice and tips. Luckily we're going in a minibus and going home the same way. That avoids the ridiculous train back.
