If we had been with the EU they would have taken us with them.

As independent from the we can make our own choice of relationship with Russia
Undoubtedly not all of the 27 will be happy with this but will be forced to say they are. The united 27

Russia says it’s ready to end ties with the European Union

KEY POINTS
  • “We don’t want to isolate ourselves from global life, but we have to be ready for that. If you want peace then prepare for war,” Lavrov added.
  • The relationship between Russia and the EU hit a new low last week when the EU’s foreign policy chief, Josep Borrell, visited his counterpart in Moscow.
  • Analysts have told CNBC that the latest differences between Moscow and Russia could put pressure on the gas pipeline being built from Russia to Germany, Nord Stream 2.

You really haven’t thought this through have you? 😂😂
Not that much
Its the principle of 27 countries all having to agree with the dominant forces of the powerful EU countries.
In order to present a unified stance on just about anything.

And therein lies the whole problem with the EU. Its a club of countries with disparate views on just about everything. And the weak are bribed to join the consensus. I would doubt that the Baltic EU nations are comfortable in upsetting their powerful Russian neighbours

Its just a matter of time before a big issue comes along to break that fragile unity. Maybe COVID or maybe Brexit success or maybe this Russian problem or something else will be the catalyst to see it crumble.
I wonder what the EU would do if Russia walked in to Estonia.

Ha, ok. You keep telling yourself that.

I, for one, would rather stand with 27 other countries against Russia rather than our little island on it's own.

Russia meddled in the very referendum that resulted in Brexit yet you proclaim it a success and is beneficial to us. It's more likely beneficial for Russia.

We have a harder line on Russia than almost all of the EU27. Poland and the Baltics are the exception. This is the daftest thing I've seen shared for a long time.

I'm pretty sure Germany's reliance on Russian energy sources is why they don't take a harder line on it.

Which is a shame, Putin is scum.

The last 10 things I posted were the daftest thing you've seen. Either I get dafter and dafter or your copy and paste button is stuck.
There you go have fun

So what your suggesting is that each country take its own line against Russia, some softer, some harder and that will reduce the threat Russia poses to the west? Maybe the lack of solidarity will just confuse them or something?

If youve thought it through and come to that conclusion then there’s no point in debating with you frankly

Well theres a difference - we are a big enough country to take its own line
Other EU counties have to tow the line to the Germans (= EU)

One of the main reasons they are sorry to lose us.

Name 4 things you have ever bought from Russia.

It's the weakest it has ever been, it's strength is it's bullying.

China is a different animal, I would guess that 50% of manufactured goods excluding cars has their sticker on it.

That's so unlikely that it wouldn't happen. However if you consider it a possibility, the fact that Estonia is a NATO and UN Security Council member would suggest that the EU's response would be irrelevant.

On their own Baltic countries can’t stand up to Russia but as part of a block of 27 then they have a voice Russia will listen to

That’s the point. Strength in unity. Not going off on your own and doing your own thing
