Yet another London club

Bad news. The two Welsh clubs stay down and we lose a shorter away trip. One which is always a great trip with a river setting, or the other a brand new stadium.

If Fulham or Brentford go up there will be 6 London teams in the Premier League. Not sure what point the original poster is trying to make?
Does he have an issue with 5 North West teams in the Premier League?

If I was guessing the point I think he's trying to espouse is a perceived split in the haves and have nots in geographical north south terms. Fact is two of the promoted teams are north of Birmingham and two of the relegated teams can be termed as Southern teams.

With the monster that is london the attraction as a player to live there is making northern football harder. Even newcastle have to pay more to attract players and that like ourselves n scumderland have had more than our share of greedy mercenaries cos of that. Even gary meville said on interview man u might have to put there training ground there in order to attract players.

There is little doubt that certainly where young international footballers are concerned London (or certainly the leafy belts on the periphery) may be a more attractive an option. And given the choice between the south and the North East the former is much more attractive for the single wealthy sportsmen. As a matter of interest given what has happened over the past 6 months will big cities lose some attractiveness? Maybe maybe not.

Brentford has a catchment area of 2-3 million people Id guess, probably a few more for Fulham.

Plenty of examples of players who have come to the Boro and ended up making a permanent home here

Watford isn't in London.
If Luton is in London eg London Luton Airport then Watford being 25 miles (ish) further south must be in London - Watford certainly tries to attract players by claiming to be a London team (they made this claim themselves).

The pull of London seems to be for the overseas players - so people living there might claim not to live in London, Watford the area plays on its London association to attract business and it is on the underground system - I have walked from the underground station a few times in the 90s. You get to the ground, thinking you are there and then get diverted on a long walk through a cemetary until you finally reach away end!

Was hoping Swansea would go up tbh. It's a real ballbreaker of an away day - as are Bournemouth, Norwich and even Watford as far as 'London' trips are concerned. Awkward :(

Guillem Balague said it about the NE clubs 10+ years ago. Apparently it is common in Spain for the smaller regional clubs to have the training ground in Madrid & then they fly 'home' for the game.

While it could make it easier to attract established stars, it isn't really for me. If it was a choice of mid-table Premier League 'success' with that or mid-table 'failure' in the Championship with a homegrown team like the one that faced Fulham on 7th May 2006, I'd take the homegrown one every day.

Good club, I hope they get promoted. Interesting new stadium, and one in the face for all the pundits who’ve been questioning their analytics/data approach to recruitment. As if Matthew Benham doesn’t know what he’s doing!

Luton REALLY isn't in Luton. IN fact none of the "London" airports are in London except London city and, perhaps London Heathrow. Though the latter doesn't have a "Point of the compass" post code. Which is surely what defines being in London? Mind you that means I'm a good 2 buildings away form living in London myself.

I was just making the point that businesses want to pretend they are part of London to attract overseas / foreign people as London must be viewed as where to be from other countries
