Yesterday - It all looks very unprofessional

So Warnock is preparing for a big game against West Brom and is notified by someone that he could be on his way. Gibson then phones him to tell him the news which he already knows.

The club later announce that Neil has left by mutual consent which is a blatant lie confirmed by Warnock who is disappointed and didn't want to leave.

Warnock is very reluctant to criticise Gibson and I believe his comments are directed at Neil Bausor (no doubt Warnock will explain more over the coming days on Talksport etc). Gibson is still the man at the top who employs Bausor in his role so if he's not up to it then that falls at Gibson's door to address it.

I may be wrong but I think Warnock has possibly been suggesting players who are a bit older with championship experience, probably wanting a decent contract but with little or no sell on value for the club due to their age. This no doubt was a total contrast to the vision of Scott who is trying to find hidden gems who can make the club a lot of money in the future but also do a very good job while they're here (Buendia, James Maddison are good examples of this at Norwich).

Bausor has no doubt been the middle man who hasn't had the balls to say to Warnock, we don't agree with you wanting to sign that player, so instead has just waited until other clubs came in and got deals over the line for his targets. Hence the extracting teeth comment from Warnock.

Personally, moving forward as a club I believe Scott's ideas and philosophy are the way to go. That's proven by the fact Norwich are currently sat in the premier league and we're nowhere near. However our handling of this all seems very poor and it's a poor way to treat Neil Warnock who I personally think seems like a decent bloke. He breaks the record for the most games in management and then finds out he could be on his way on the morning of the following game (via the press). That is very very poor from Boro and I feel embarrassed as a supporter.

Thanks for your efforts Neil. It's been great to see someone with your passion (especially at the age of 72!) managing our club and I have no doubt if it wasn't for you, we could well be sat in League 1 right now with the mackems. All the best for the future.

Warnock also said he knew for weeks who was replacing him, so I think he's just spinning his own story about what happened.

I don't for one second believe he found out by reading the paper yesterday morning like he says.

It's not a coincidence that it was done going in to the international break, giving Wilder 2 weeks to bed in before Millwall.

I wouldn’t be at all surprised if the club has mismanaged it.

They seem to come across as a Mickey Mouse operation at every turn.
Not sure I agree with that.

It's been pretty obvious that NW was only here until the summer and we know now that the club had to move quickly to get Wilder, given the offers from elsewhere.

The team has never clicked under NW this season and I suspect the club would have changed sooner, had he not been so close to the record he achieved last week - I don't think it's a coincidence that he is sacked within days of that milestone.

And this is the issue I have with the way NW has conducted himself; he's tainted the view of many people and set the agenda in his favour.

I think it lacks class and smacks of self-importance.

My take on it is a bit different:

Neil gets pulled in after Hull because results and performances are dreadful, and there’s clearly a public clash with recruitment, and told it’s probably game over. This fits the 3 week timeline he mentioned in his interviews last night.

Because Gibson’s an absolute gent, he tells Warnock that he’s interviewing new managers but can stay in charge, particularly because he’s a few games away from breaking the all-time management record and it would be like shooting Bambi to give him the axe before then.

This fits a few comments Warnock has made in press conferences saying things like, “If the club think that someone else can put 11 players out and make them perform better, good luck to them.” He’s said similar things a few times in the last fortnight.

Then we go on our little run against the league’s cannon fodder which makes the situation less urgent, but Gibson queues up Wilder for either the end of the season or when Warnock gets the boot.

A few places have reported that the reason why we jumped is because Wilder starting getting other offers - managerial merry-go-round always happens at international break, so coming into the weekend maybe someone got wind that Norwich were about to twist manager, or maybe NUFC were having a sniff since the Howe deal has gone a bit sticky, or just thought the timing was good, and decided to make the change.

Leaking it to the Daily Mail was not very nice, but like someone said in a thread yesterday, the Mail does seem to be our paper of choice, and Warnock’s honest that he knew he was being replaced for three weeks.

I think the big takeaway is how nice a gesture it was from Gibson to let him keep managing so he could break the record, if he already knew he was going three weeks ago. That’s some gesture considering how utterly ruthless football is.

Maybe you're right. But then I think back to the Downing debacle. Getting him to sign a waiver to allow him to start in the remaining games of the season under Pulis, on the promise of a new contract (albeit on lesser wages) with also the potential for a coaching role. Only to be told by Bausor at the end of the season that he was surplus to requirements.

We do seem very badly run at times.

The simple fact is that we knew NW was leaving at the end of the season so we obviously had managerial targets - possibly a certain one in mind. If the candidate is available and that there is a danger that this candidate may be hired elsewhere this now makes sense (I'm thinking Wilder had been linked with Barnsley). On top of that our performances have been disappointing and despite spending money we have flattered to deceive. I was all for giving NW until the end of the season but I can understand why the club has made the decision to move on sooner than anticipated.

Warnock is bitter because he was sacked, as many of us would be.

For all of the speculation nobody knows what has really gone on.

I am always wary of the club’s activities based on their previous record.

I think Gibson’s management set up has always been an amateurish, classless outfit.

That said I think replacing Warnock was probably the right thing to do.

I can’t help thinking we are going to be in the same position within the next 2 years though……

The business of football is bit dirty. Managers get paid big money, contracts are such that you get paid even if you don’t do your job very well. Managers and players break contracts when it suits them so loyalty is thin. We shouldn’t be at all surprised that if a Club feels it needs to make a decision on where it’s future is and that opportunity is there you take it. Warnock said at the start of the season that this was his last anyway.

I was confused by his own tale of events yesterday. If he indeed knew 3 weeks ago that a new manager was in the wings then yesterday wasn’t the “came out of the blue” call he made it out to be. Anyway he has no doubt been paid up until the end of the season so another nice addition to live off in retirement.

The only thing unprofessional was warnock throwing the club under the bus which sums up his last season for me.

I'm sure more will come out over the next few weeks. Warnock will be on Talksport and Sky soon enough.

In fact Talksport are doing a 2 hour special on him tomorrow celebrating his career. How's that for timing 😂

This new guy and Neil (?waste of time )bausor have got together to drive Warnock out of the club, it stinks from top to bottom end of .

Don't think he has thrown the club under the bus. Messrs Gibson and Bausor have a history of poor people management and making sacking decisions at baffling times (Southgate being sacked whilst in the playoff positions comes to mind - although I believe Keith Lamb was here then...). To suggest they've handled this poorly pretty much adds up with a lot of their previous actions. You know for a fact Warnock will react like this, so why give him the ammunition in the first place?

I think you are right on the money with this, I share your take on things.

We'd been relegated and the second Tuncay and Huth left under southgate we looked in trouble and got thrashed at home. Club gave him a chance like they did with Robbo. Southgate got sacked because of Southgate. Look at this, club says Neil this isnt working and we going to make a change in three weeks. Our hands been forced a bit but lets be honest, we were expecting better. Insteas of saying good look i'll leave now, the giy is such a narcissicist hecsticks around just to pick up a record at the expense of the club.
