Yannick Bolasie loan deal

Of course it is personal abuse, in a sport that wants to promote support for mental health services, it shouldn’t be encouraged, by calling him Colin everyone knows they are calling him the ‘W‘ word. You and a few of the supporters of the teams he has managed might feel they use it affectionally as bantz, the vast majority of other football fans will not be using it as mere leg pulling. It is just convenient for the bullies and haters to use Colin as it is not classed as an offensive word by itself.

I am sure his wife and children are not amused. Like I said, he has no choice other than to laugh it off, as fans are very inventive and unforgiving. Contrary to popular belief, he will have feelings too. People in the public eye are no different to you and I in a working environment. We all have a work persona and a private persona, sometimes they can be very, very different.
What was it you used to call Pulis? I guess it depends on the person then....

Do you know him, Col? For some reason I have it in my head that you'd met him or knew him.

If it's from the horses mouth that he doesn't like it then I'd stop using it. Frankly though, it's a daft nickname. I've got 'offensive' nicknames between my mates but it doesn't bother me. To be honest I considered Colin more as a term of endearment. He's our Colin now.

No offence intended whatsoever.

You are correct. My comments were really more about alleged banter in general and not specifically NW, it just so happens he is the example in this case. There is nothing wrong with such nicknames in the right places, I agree, when everyone is a part of a friendship or work group or buys into the banter. However, sometimes people do still get privately hurt at a nickname or joke, even if they play along with it. If it follows them around it can become hurtful. (Not referring to NW btw) He is no shrinking violet, but he is no block of ice either. I would not think they think it very pleasant when he is out with his wife or family privately and some oiks shout “Alright Colin” and giggle away to themselves thinking they are comic geniuses, for example. He knows it goes with the territory and accepts it and laughs it off, I’m sure. My point though was that most football supporters probably use it in an offensive manner toward him. However, it seems anyone in the public eye is fair game.

That said, I have been, and probably will be guilty of similar in the future with other people, so I really am very far from perfect in this area, I will freely admit.

I think we should all lighten up and give ourselves a bit of a break! If Warnock has ever read on here that I've called him Colin and is offended, he'll also have read that I am his biggest fan (I like him even more than I liked Pulis) and lobbied for his appointment for several years (along with yourself and erimus74).;) I mean I basically got him the job.:p

every top clubs employs match and player analysts who pour through a whole host of stats. Every player plays with a little sports bra and a tracker on his back. But I'm sure it's completely pointless and all those successful clubs are wasting their money

Like the best defender statistically in France that warnock said couldnt defend after watching 2 minutes of him?

Fair comment , Col. I definitely take your point. I'm not the type to even attempt to engage with anyone regardless of their celebrity if I saw them in public, let alone shout a nickname like that at them in front of their family and I wouldn't want to contribute to that. Maybe I'll stick with NW going forward!

As a daft term of endearment on here though I didn't think it'd be received as badly as it has been.

No offence intended lads.

Again, you are also correct Atypical (y). As I said in my reply to Big Nothing, I am far from an angel in this area, but I haven’t claimed to be. My comments were general, I accepted you and some other fans will mean it as inoffensive banter, I am fairly sure most will use it in a more offensive manner

He was one of our better players season before last. He even chipped in with 7 league goals last season.
the second half of that statement is true, the other is subjective. He was never really that good. People went over the top at his early displays and bought into the hype, they've spent the last 18 months deluding themselves that he's just off form, played int eh wrong position or lost confidence. I've said it before, He's a non-league player with a lower premier league shot. He will end up playing in League Two.

Well firstly the metrics used are what is important, if you are looking at tackles won, then that really doesn't tell you a lot about the players defensive ability because if you are making a lot of tackles you are making a lot of mistakes leading up to it. Secondly I think Warnock was being slightly facetious with the comment. Third, I'm sure Warnock has been wrong before, none of us know who the defender was so who knows.

Appreciate that its subjective but it is possible that his form has gone up and down since he became a regular fixture in the side. Maybe he is a perfectly good Championship player some weeks and not others. Either way, I'm pretty sure he'll be happy enough with how things have gone since leaving Shildon and as I said above, I'm pretty certain he'll end up no more than a tier below us at most with his next move. Good luck to him if so. If he stays, I'm not writing him off yet either.

Calling someone - anyone - a ****** is far from inoffensive banter. If you really think this isn’t the case then you have far lower standards than the majority on this thread.

You may

You may have said it but it doesnt mean to say your correct. I'm sure there are many midfielders who have made less contribution than wing who have are playing at this level for a sustained period.

I'll support the lad every time he pulls the shirt on, and I wish him well, but I just see far too many holes in his game. I'm thankful for the goals he has scored and effort he has put in. He has at least given everything he has to try and succeed.

Time will tell, I'm confident in this one.

None taken, nor with Atypical or others. I have no doubt Boro fans, or fans of his other ex teams have ever really meant it in an offensive manner, but there are far more opposition fans that will have. It goes with the territory.

The issue is really when things get ‘around’ and something sticks and spills into your personal life such issues can become concerning. We all have differing coping mechanisms, some more robust than others and I know at least one occasion where I, without meaning to, caused distress to someone in the dim and distant past. I only found out several years later and was mortified. Words hurt and what is a joke to me may not be perceived that way by the recipient, but we are all guilty of it and will no doubt be so again in the future, whether we mean to or not I guess. Times are a changing and I guess we all need to learn to try to not let ourselves down as frequently than perhaps we currently do. That certainly applies to me anyway.
