Would you bring any players back from the Karanka championship era?

Kalas is a decent championship centre back.

Forshaw if he could get fit but highly unlikely considering he’s barely been fit for a while now.

Tomlin and Warnock don’t get on well together so that’s a no go.

Can’t imagine Nsue is on the level he was at when he was at boro.

Bamford is an obvious yes but like you say non starter. Same with Gibson having signed for Norwich now.

Apart from Kalas who I would have as a back up centre back I am not sure there is any one really. How is Vossen getting on nowadays?
 
I was going to say Kalas is decent. Then again im sure Bristol City paid a few quid for him (6mil?)

Unfortunately the bulk of that side are either the wrong side of 30 or been injury prone.

I think we could have benefited from Friend staying another year as a leader and he could have slotted into that 3 CBs role when Fry and Hall were crocked (certainly a better back up than Wood) . He played plenty of games for Brum so no fitness doubts.

You look at that Karanka side and we had a great 'spine'. Ayala / Gibson and Clayton / Leadbitter. You could then add Friend who was arguably the best LB in the division (along with Creswell at Ipswich). Tomlin was a match winner.

We definitely have missed a Leadbitter 'type'. I'm not sure you see many these days. I loved how he would snarl and shout at people for miss placed passes etc.
 
No - it was 5 years ago, move on.

None of them are playing regularly at a level or quality that would suggest they would be capable of spurring the team onto a promotion campaign. (Except Bamford/Gibson who are clearly not going to sign for the Boro!)

Friend played 26 times in the Championship for Birmingham, he was signed as a first team player not a squad player so why did he only play just over half the games?

Forshaw was bang average here. Two goals in 90+ appearances. No thank you.

I absolutely loved Vossen here but that time has gone I am sad to say. It was the success of his partnership with Bamford that made them special. Complemented each other wonderfully Do unless you can get Bamford.........................:whistle:

Kalas is ok but not where we probably need to strengthen.

The other well their ships have probably sailed.

Nout wrong with Kalas as back up but it’s not gonna happen as he was a big money signing for Bristol at the time. Forshaw game isn’t about goals he’s a play maker but the reason it’s probably a no cos of his injury record
