Would finishing 8th be a good season

Would you say Warnock has maximised the potential from this squad and a true reflection is about 8th, would getting to the play offs be classed as over achieving, when you look at our squad compared to those around us???

On the face of it, 8th is fine.

But in no way were the defeats to Bristol City, Derby, Birmingham and Rotherham because of limitations in the squad.

We had more than enough to beat all 4 of those sides, but players did not perform and Warnock got things wrong.

Definetly, to get in to the playoffs were just a pipe dream when the season kicked off, we always had an outside chance because we have Neil Warnock in charge, which I still really think we have a chance because anything is possible will NW is at the club

We are no better than Derby or Bristol. Should be better than Rotherham and Birmingham are massively struggling

Compared to my expectations at the start of the season 8th would be great, but the way things have panned out, with us on the cusp of the playoffs for so long, it would be frustrating. I suppose I should be grateful that the fact we're where we are is making things interesting AND lets face it, it still is.

Treading water.
We are the new Ipswich Town.
Could of happily 'fast forwarded' the last few seasons as so little of note actually happened.

I wanted a good degree of improvement on last season overall. The bare minimum I would have thought was acceptable with NW here was a top half finish, below that I'd have been pretty disappointed with.

8th therefore wouldn't be too bad at all. It does class as a season of building, with all the rot we had, a sudden masterclass was never going in a year IMHO.

Scraping the playoffs would be an extra treat tbh, considering where we were. If we do it then that's awesome.

I'm struggling to see the players in our squad this season since the summer which makes some think we should be higher than where we are.

We've got one of the worst keepers, no decent striker, a makeshift central defensive partnership and a midfield looking unbalanced at best.

In Whatmore, Bolasie and Kebano we've improved the side. Taverner looked like he could become a decent player, the same with Bola and Dijksteel. Fisher looks like he could be a decent addition. Johnson a more than useful squad player.

We need two better than average strikers, a good 6 months training for Mendez Laing and Taverner to establish himself as a solid central player and we could see some improvement. We need a good central defender, who can organise at the back. Nobody is doing that at the moment.

Agree about Tav been central. We have enough wide options at the moment and the centre of the pitch is shocking. Play him central and we will be a better side. Can’t wait for him to be back.

From where we were last season, most definitely and most fans at the start of the season would have took finishing 8th.. if not they would say you were crackers for suggesting it.

As it happens we’ve done well.. the opportunity was there to do even better with signing a decent striker in either window. It’s the few mistakes that we’ve made against so called lesser teams that may come to haunt us.

It’s not over yet.. plenty more twists and turns to be had.

An improvement yes, but a good season? Not really. 8th could never be classed as a good season for a decent sized club, it's ultimately a pointless season

No not when we could have been in a play off spot now with just half decent home form. I think he is very lucky there is no fans there the dross we have been serving up at home. Whether fans would have lifted them is debatable.

There is a school of thought that last season was the one out of the ordinary. The top end is were we expect to be most years.

We are lucky we are not in a relegation battle.

We have a brilliant manager.

Definitely. I had us around 13/14 before a ball was kicked.

Biggest issue in Summer (again) will be recruitment. Number of loans going back, short term contracts and out of contract players. I actually think the squad could be poorer in August than it is now but hopefully we can fund some longer term contracts in order to build a side over the next couple of seasons.

8th is no better than 4th bottom. It achieves what?
Getting to either of those places might be fun, which is why we love the footy

We were poor last season and our squad is weaker.

We lost the glue of the team in Ayala, a club captain in friend and several senior professionals.

To be weaker and to be in contention is a miracle if I am being honest.

Our squad is not weaker than last season whatsoever, with the exception of the goalkeeper.

There is not one player that left last year that I'd want starting this season, except for Randolph.

Ayala was a sick note last season, and is a sick note this season.
