world cup goal net tension

Most Uk clubs have the tension of the goal netting too tight, You often see when a goal is scored, the ball bounces back in to play so you don't have the satisfaction of seeing the ball in the back of the net.
Note that the world cup goal netting is looser so the ball does not immediately bounce back in to the field of play,
Suggest the UK clubs change to this looser netting.

That’s an interesting point. I have not noticed many balls come back into play at the Riverside, though. This probably means the only high tension here is when we are hanging onto a slender lead late in the second half.

It's probably to do with the weave of the net. Boro use the traditional square holes, whereas the nets in the World Cup have pentagon holes. I would guess slightly more stretchy.

I remember Colin Cooper hitting a cracking goal at Ayresome v Spurs n front of the East End..nearly rebounded back out of the penalty area

There's a story here isn't there?
Ayresome park nets.....particularly Holgate end.
Something about the World Cup and a set pitch size????

it's too late in the evening really....bu it meant we only had a tiny bit of space between the goal and the cinder track around the pitch perimeter.

Everton had a similar thing - look at the state of their goals in '66

Then again Bruce Rioch simply moved the lines ;)

what about fixing Acme Gorilla double sided sticky tape to the back of the nets which will allow the ball to remain on contact .....
