World Cup 2030

Those families being caught up in the disgraceful scenes at Wembley for the EUROs final were some of the most saddening I’ve seen in football to be honest, for it to happen at a showpiece final.

It wasn’t just isolated incidents with a couple of hundred maniacs either, it was thousands of people storming the stadium without tickets and mass bribery of stewards.

I don’t think Wembley could - or should - be hosting any major tournaments after that. It’s surprising no-one was killed - and that should never, ever be a risk at a sporting event in 2021.

It’s very sad because for infrastructure and culture, we’re one of the most attractive host countries in the world. Idiot fans are a problem but the governing bodies not being able to manage it is a bigger problem. I’d rather tournaments be hosted where people can go and safely enjoy themselves.
 
What utter tosh the fact that once again we are being overlooked sorry being asked to step aside for a world cup is frankly a disgrace. We did that in 2006 when uefa stitched us up along with blatter.

so no we should go all out for the World Cup ad for a nation that gave the world the game in the first place to have not held its biggest competition for a generation ( whilst the usa will have had it twice) is nothing short of a joke.

we could host it tomorrow without a single brick being laid and fifa know it.

So let’s stop all this self pity and talking down this country ( seemingly an obsession with some on here) and let’s go all out to bring the World Cup back to England/Britain.

btw if not 2030 then when exactly when will be the right time got us to host a World Cup 2050 2070 ????

After the recent Wembley abomination, I think 2070 is probably too soon.
 
I've resigned myself to it being not in my lifetime unless they change it to a two year rotation. I can't say I am that bothered the Qatar World Cup has tainted the competition.

I know what you're saying Zorro and strongly agree about the single brick. But - that EUROs final was unacceptable, from every level.

No-one's talking down the country, it's just a fact that that game got waay out of control in the stands. Imagine having taken your kids there for their first England game and paid two hundred quid a seat. No-one should go through that.

What are you talking about? Failure to host the 2006 WC was entirely of our own doing. The FA and Tony Banks reneged on a gentleman's agreement with the Germans not to offer an opposing European bid for the World Cup if they didn't oppose our bid for Euro 96. It was a fine example of the "perfidious Albion" rather than any stitch up by those you mention.

Exactly. The idiots who caused carnage for the Final and lesser extent Semi-Final have probably seen to any English bid for many years.
