World Cup 2030

So UEFA advise UK and Ireland to withdraw in favour of a Spain/Portugal bid. How many times have Spain, Germany Etc had the World Cup since we have in 1966. UEFA are corrupt to the core

England and Spain have both hosted the World Cup once. Portugal have yet to host it.

Germany, Italy, Brazil, Mexico and France have all hosted it twice.

We've hosted one major tournament since 1966 which is ridiculous really.

Unfortunately when a bid involving England is up against another European bid it's got no chance now.

Can't say I am in favour of these joint bids. The North American three nation one for 2026 seemed a step too far and we're chancing four countries.
That said, having read the story, the claim is UEFA are asking the British Isles to bid for Euro 2028, which they'll seemingly support if we all drop the WC bid.
Would very much prefer a WC in England to be honest.

I agree. Let's chance it. We've got the Irish on board this time, and fair enough people don't love the Irish as much as they did in the 90s but they're still fairly popular. Plus a lot of people seem to think that we have proto-fascists in charge of the country, which should go down well with FIFA. Who the **** is going to vote for us from Europe anyway?

Actually, I've just realised it's a five-nation bid, not four. UK and Ireland, not GB and Ireland.

Yes I think we lost any chance of hosting a world cup for a long time right there.
And rightly so I'm sorry to say.

Maybe so but we were chosen for Euro 96 with Hillsborough (1989) and '80s hooliganism still in the memory.

It was only 1990 when UEFA lifted the ban on English clubs in competitions. We had a terrible reputation for hooliganism and crowd trouble.

I think the decision is more to do with politics and money than security and violence.

Can't say I blame them at all, the Euros final was an absolute shambles that embarrassed us as a nation.

Amateurish and broadcast on one of the biggest stages in the world.

Wembley demonstrated we can't be trusted to behave. More importantly, it demonstrated to UEFA, FIFA et al that we cannot stage a supposed showpiece final in a manner that is attractive to their corporate sponsors. Pavement dancing and the rearrangement of pub furniture at some distance from the ground is priced in. Fear of Wembley-style behaviour, beamed around the world, would cost sponsorship and they, rightly, won't fancy that.
