I am reading that the IAAF give athletes $100,000 for every time a world record is broken.

I understand two were broken on the last day - the pole vault and the Swede will reap a fortune very time he pushes the WR up 1 cm at a time.

However the biggest controversy was the girl from Nigeria Tobi Amusan, who broke the world 100m hurdles WR in the semi finals - coming from low In the rankings. It transpired she had “special foam shoes”. Nice earnings! She broke the WR again in the final but the wind was just past the allowable limit so she missed out on another hundred grand.

michael johnson has been getting pelters with his comments about the 100m hurdle times in the semis. there were 12 PB's/National records and a world record. he was thinking that the timing was wrong.

You don't have to be anywhere near the best ever in the world to make that money in football. You can get it every week for being not good enough to play for a leading side. Or every month for not being good enough for the top flight.

well aware of that. 4 days of training for Jesse Lingard for example but athletes are significantly less paid and therefore 100000 is a huge incentive.

Yes I’ve been watching all week really enjoyed it.

Sadly a few of the big match ups edp in the men’s didn’t really happen due to covid but some great races.

🇬🇧 medal haul of 7 not bad either.

Crazy it’s so close to the commonwealth games though

7 medals seem to be a par for GB at World Athletics Champs. One Gold medal is the lowest since 2007 apparently but what a gold by Whiteman.

Didn’t take as much interest as normal due to the timing of the events in the middle of the night. Jake Whiteman was superb as was Keely Hodgkinson.

Surprised how small the stadium looked in Eugene.

Brilliant wasn’t it.

Yes we got 5 in Doha so 7 is good considering we don’t have any stellar in the Christie oruguhu mo farah ( ?) mould anymore

was Keely Hodgkinson.
She was incredible and so close to that gold but MU was just too good.

Due to covid the next round world champs are next year so not too long to wait then it’s Paris.

One disappointment no mens team in the 4x400 that is black spot as we normally medal in this ( as the girls did) so to not make the final was poor.

Jamaica men are really struggling post bolt though as the us dominated all the sprint events.

I think we are starting to rebuild a very good athletics squad. We are weaker in the sprints but getting stronger again in the middle distance events. Our best. 800m runner wasn’t able to compete.

Yes it’s goes in cycles as you say the ones coming through do look good but the gold medalists are once in a generation

To even compete with the us and Jamaica is incredible really.

But middle distance is looking strong.

I’d like to see Keely in the 4x400 as well in Paris.

I’m not a fan of the commonwealth games SET UP as I hate to to see team GB split up esp in relays and in the pool but one thing it does do is gives those on the fringes a chance to shine then when the propper games come around they can step up for team GB 🇬🇧

Amusan was phenomenal in the hurdles - her leg speed between the jumps was amazing. Duplantis was an incredible showman winning the title and then ending the whole championships by sailing over the bar - a tremendous achievement that will have been a real highlight for all that witnessed it.

I've watched all of it. Loved it. Big fan of athletics.

I actually agree with Michael Johnson, I think the timing in the W 100m hurdles looks very suspect. Sindy Sember even said she didn't feel like she was going that fast (to run 12:50 British record).

Amusan looked brilliant through the rounds. Personally I thought her 12:40 heat looked faster than the semi. (Also, if you look back at footage of when Kenny Harrison ran 12:20 (old world record), I think she looked quicker (subjective clearly)).

Also kind of weird that in the second semi final the clock stopped at 12:53, and was then 'rounded down' to 12:43!! That's highly unusual.

Amusan deserved to win... but the fact that so many of the athletes set PBs and National records, and also said they didn't feel that fast, does seem odd to me.
