Woody on Carraghers' 'The Greatest Game' Podcast

Ha, well it's terrible grammar, but obviously he meant that if his son is ever owned by Real Madrid but on loan at Middlesbrough, he'll teach him via his own experience that the thing to do is go back to Real Madrid and displace Cannavaro and Pepe from the starting eleven.

He probably genuinely believes it’s a likely scenario

How many on here wanted Warnock after Woodgate went, dont think it was a lot.
Bet its 100% now though.
I don’t think hardly any Boro fans wanted him as manager, but 100% were behind him at Luton. And the first half against Brentford the following game we showed promising signs, but whatever his half time team talk was that game was the start of the end for him.

I haven't listened to this but from reading this thread his comments just seem really disappointing and as others have described, bitter. It's a real shame as I thought the tweet/statement he made after being sacked showed a lot of class.

I mean he wants to compare himself to the likes of Fergie and Klopp getting time to improve but ignores the obvious fact that they were already proven winners at the highest level before they got those jobs.

It's only fair that once Woodgate Jnr teaches him his numbers and his shapes that Jonathan 'learns him' something in return.

Personally I wouldn’t say it’s bitter. I think he’s hurting and he doesn’t want to hold his hands up and say he was out of his depth. He was, but he’ll believe, like most would in his shoes, that he can turn it around. He has a lot of belief in himself and I can’t knock him for that. Maybe he’ll prove us all wrong. I honestly wish him well but I’m not keen on him working for us again.

He did say he would be willing to go back and be someone's assistant, as long as it was the right job.

Some team that plays in white, he looks bigger in white.. he's played for two clubs that played in white. He likes a white shirt.

Woodgate doesn't have the right character or judgement to be a successful manager. His history proves he's weak minded so it's baffling why he'd be given a significant managerial job.

Michael Duberry speaks very negatively of Warnock's assistant, Kevin Blackwell. He basically describes him as a bully and horrible man.

If he's as good as he thinks he is then he should go away, start at the bottom, pick up the vast experience it takes to succeed and work his way up from there. There's no shame in it and maybe he will pick up some of what is clearly lacking in him at this moment in time.

Or maybe he should stick to what he is good at right now. He identified Dijksteel and Bola and they are the current stars of our team. If he's a talented scout with a good eye for a player then maybe he could work at becoming head of recruitment somewhere, theres no shame in that as well.

Mostly what he could do with right now is finding a little bit of humility and self awareness though. A lot of what he said in that podcast doesn't stand up to scrutiny and he could maybe start looking at himself and his own role in our almost disaster last season. He'll never learn if he thinks he knows everything already.

I'll give him Dijksteel and Bola but he also managed to find a worse striker than Gestede, and that was Nmecha. And thinking he could get a tune out of Morrisson when a dozen other more capable managers couldn't.

Far too arrogant for me and as said above, he could do with showing a little humility. It all reads that he could do no wrong, it was everyone else's fault and given time we'd be playing Ajax like football in the prem. Deluded human being.

Imagine him back here doing Gilly's job! I'm sure the fans would go easy on him....

Anyone else get a sense of sadness reading this thread? I know his comments have not endeared him to a number of posters. To me, he is speaking from the heart not the head- admittedly a big mistake

Not one jot. I don’t really hold Woodgate in my heart as a boro hero. Just someone who has played for boro for a little bit and someone who managed us worse than anyone else has.

No doubt he is speaking from the heart, as there isn’t much between his ears.

His line of “Na it’s lying though. People say the league table tells the truth, it’s not. It’s lying” was the final straw for me and many others.

If he can’t articulate that he thinks our performances warranted more points than we had without making stupid statements like that, then he shouldn’t be a manager full stop.

I still can’t get my head around his comparison to Klopp. Klopps first season at Liverpool, he took over in October and they were runners up in the Europa League and league cup. All signs things could improve
They then finished at least top 4 every year after.

There was nothing in Woodgates tactics or players performance under him to even hint at a turnaround.

Robs summary of Woodgate a few pages surprises me as none of it rings true from what I saw and heard.
