Woody on Carraghers' 'The Greatest Game' Podcast

We had that good spell around Christmas and I thought, OK, he might have cracked it. But then it fell apart again. And that Swansea game back, after months to think about it and get it right, was abysmal. One of the lowest Boro points in recent years. Maybe it was that - actually trying to think brought us to that point.

Anyone else get a sense of sadness reading this thread? I know his comments have not endeared him to a number of posters. To me, he is speaking from the heart not the head- admittedly a big mistake
If he's got an eye for a player and he's still on the payroll.. why isn't he working as a scout for boro?

Lots of our fans say things like 'if it wasn't for injury Woody would have been the best centre half in the universe' though so he probably thinks he'd have kept him out of the side.

He'd have got a few more England caps but he wasn't as good as Ferdinand/Terry, let alone Ballon d'Or and World Cup winner Cannavaro.
I have to admit to being one of those who genuinely believes that he was world class. When I first saw him for Leeds he was years ahead of his age. For me he was up there with Sol Campbell and Ferdinand.
As for the cockney buckethead comparison: I think he is like Alan Kernaghan compared to Woody :)
As he is a Boro lad maybe I am biased.

Woodgate doesn't have the right character or judgement to be a successful manager. His history proves he's weak minded so it's baffling why he'd be given a significant managerial job.

Michael Duberry speaks very negatively of Warnock's assistant, Kevin Blackwell. He basically describes him as a bully and horrible man.

Michael Duberry went to school with one of my mates from uni and apparently wasn't averse to the odd bit of bullying himself.

I suspect my mate may have been slightly scarred by this based on the fact that whenever he played championship manager he signed Duberry, then fined him every week 😂

He's got some nerve suggesting he needed more time when his last action as manager in a massive game was to start up front an out of contract donkey who couldn't wait to leave and a loan player who'd done nowt. The pair had, I think 2 goals between them.

Picked over 2 players who were on permanent contracts who'd managed closer to 20 goals between them.

And he wanted more time? If ever there was a cry for help and a massive hint to Gibson he wanted putting out of his misery, that was it. Can't think of any other reason he did it!

I think you are a bit biased. No one would doubt that when fit he was a fantastic Premier League player, but world class? I doubt it personally.
