Out this morning. Only heard the first 30 mins so far, but he's still the Woody we know. Put his difficulty at Boro down to losing players like Braithwaite and them not being replaced, among other stuff.

So far still a really good listen from a proper Boro lad, especially considering the career he's had, it's fascinating.

His difficulty being complete ineptitude.

doesn’t appear to be doing Warnock much harm, #outofhisdepth like the kids say

Said his biggest regret in football was signing for boro permanently after his loan from Madrid.
What would have done with that season and a half? Where would he have went to? It’s a tricky one. Would he have been more/less of a party boy away from Boro. Would he have pushed himself more at another team? Would another manager have pushed him.. to the point of injury.

Surely that fight in Leeds would be a bigger regret? Second only to having Robbie Keane as his right hand man for the Boro job.

He was deluding himself saying he should of went back to Madrid. Carragher pointed out that Madrid had just signed Cannavaro and then the conversation swiftly moved on. Woodgate is deluded. We know that from his managerial spell. It was still a decent listen though

He also said he realised after the third pre season game against Salford we didn’t have the players to play out from the back so changed his game plan for the season. What the change was I am not sure. Such an awful season.

Opinion on woody is divisive amongst the fan base, but regardless of opinion the following was the problem. And he did the job Gibson wanted him to do with a divided squad and those players who needed to leave have now gone.

1. He should never have been thrown in like he was.
2. He needed experience in his backroom staff to make it work.
3. He had far too many players in the squad even if good enough needed to move on for themselves and the sake of the club, a lot of them had become stale at the club but were on far too much money to move out. the hunger just didn't look to be there.
4. It appeared he was too pally with some players and not others.

Warnock is doing so much better with about 50% of the resources at his disposal. so the comments make no sense. if Warnock had last seasons squad would he be doing better, the answers yes.

Most of his signings now look good enough at this level, Djksteel, Bola look the payers he knew they could be.

Was he out of his depth, maybe. But mainly it was learning on the job which was the problem and never knowing and trusting his best 11 or having them available which was the downfall.

Could we have predicted the outcome i would say yes, but if he gets the opportunity again i am sure he will do far better. I'm not sure it was all Woody's fault.

Personality with the press and what came out was maybe at times too honest, passionate and naive, as he has a very strong personality and desire to win, and his anger not achieving it eat away with him the more the season went on. Control that better and i am sure it will make him a better coach in the future.

Lots of our fans say things like 'if it wasn't for injury Woody would have been the best centre half in the universe' though so he probably thinks he'd have kept him out of the side.

He'd have got a few more England caps but he wasn't as good as Ferdinand/Terry, let alone Ballon d'Or and World Cup winner Cannavaro.

Agree mate.

He also said something like he was surprised boro fans were against his appointment and that we wanted someone better than him. I’ve got nothing against him and I know he tried his best but I am just glad he is nowhere near our football club anymore.

I've never trusted him since he left the club he 'dreamed of captaining' for a fellow mid-table side (Spurs were awful when he went there, they weren't an 'established top 6 side' back then whatsoever), not six months after signing for us permanently. Never wanted him back after Stoke as a player, never wanted him as manager, don't really want him on our staff in the future.

That said, I wish him a long and happy retirement.(y)

Signing Woody permanently might well have been one of Southgate's big regrets too?! I imagine he took a fair chunk of the wage budget and wasn't necessarily what we needed. We had signed Huth iirc, also had Riggot and Ugo as experienced players, with Wheater and Bates coming through.

Woody was a decent player and should have had a better career, but I'll never get this 'Boro legend'. Fair play to him for giving management a go, but he should never have been given the job and wouldn't get one anywhere else.

I think "deluded" is exactly his problem and why he'll never make it as a manager IMHO. He's not going to learn because he already thinks he knows everything.

Remember someone on the old board feeding back from a meet the coaches event before the season started and he apparently stated the aim was promotion. Funny thing to say if you thought the squad wasn't good enough.

He was also asked at some point in the season about bringing in experience to his backroom staff and said he didn't need it because he could call people like Pulis. So that excuse doesn't wash either. It was his choice not to have a more experienced coach on his team.

It was a tricky job maybe but he still made a pig's ear of it and shouldn't have been anywhere near relegation.

I always wanted Woodgate to do well as our manager

When he first signed I thought he was incredible, I remember a game against Arsenal and he was so good

But this is pathetic, he is completely wrong and embarrassing himself

He comes across so bitter and is blaming everything and everyone other than himself

Why would anyone give him an opportunity going forward? He’s done nothing to show he deserves another crack at management
