And also I feel that people can grow into positions and learn from their mistakes. They can develop as people and most of all as managers through time and experience. And that is the error I think many make when talking about Gareth Southgate. He isn't the same manager now as when he was given the job at Middlesbrough. That might seem obvious but many people still seem to judge him as if he is the young boss that took over from Steve McClaren. Managers like players can and do often get better.
Jonathan Woodgate seems a very different person to the footballer that left us for Spurs. It will be interesting to see how much he has learned from his brief spell in charge at Boro.
