Woodgate not sacked - rumours

good rant Coluka.

its an angle I suppose, but not a lot of fact in there, just conjecture and self opinion, nothing wrong with that. Now do the list with all the good things the chairman has brought us under his tutelage, just your own conjecture and opinion will do.
Nobody is denying his successes Wilf, but to deny what is happening right now is silly.
We are in the worst form of those down the bottom and we face a potentially harder run-in than the rest based on the form of our upcoming opposition.
Posters happily tell how Gibson is keeping the club afloat (or as is most likely, Bulkhauls success is staving off the banks). If we were being run better that wouldn't be needed.
We've still got a burgeoning wage bill, few of our higher earners will generate income when they leave, the young lads coming through however will attract interest.
If we go down all of the implications of the above will increase as our income will plummet. Season ticket prices are already set, walkups are pricing a lot of people out.
Many of us on here lived through the 80's issues and while the circumstances are very different, the ultimate destination could be the same.
There may be a lot of moaning for moaning sake, but the reality of our situation should be stark enough that it warrants more than dismissive counters based on hope and faith that it'll all be OK.

Btw I class a Carlo ancelloti Raffael Benitez etc as a top draw managers.

I’d argue venables is the closest we’ve ever had to a top drawer manager ( as charlton robson mclaren etc we were their first club)

Wilf, you must have missed the bit where I praised him for saving the club (with others) and his superb vision prior to 2006/07, easy done when you have your own angle though I guess. Of course some of my comment is opinion, thats what we all give is it not? However, there is also fact in there too, should you wish to do your own research and listen back to some interviews. I appreciate some fans choose to believe everything they hear through their rose tinted earplugs and forget what they see through their rose tinted specs. Thats all fine too. Me, I take things day by day hour by hour and praise where it is due and criticise where i consider it is appropriate. Of course, I am often wrong as much as I am right, aren’t we all? I just want the best for my team thats all and I am absolutely sure the fans deserve better fayre than is dished up for our hard earned money than we have generally had of late, but I dare say every struggling teams fans will think that too

We haven't had a 'top drawer' manager in the 40+ years I've supported the club.
In fact the last 20 years has been a succession of appointing Managers in their 1st top role with the likes of Strachan, Mowbray, Monk etc thrown in.

Either way the hit ratio is **** poor

I know what your saying but we’re not gonna get the best managers in the world we are Middlesbrough football club. I think we have had managers who have done top jobs with AK and Steve McClaren being 2 good examples. No one is expecting us to go out and get the best names in world football, recently though we have got it wrong more than what we have right.

Karanka and McClaren had worked with the best before being thrown into the bullring, Woodgate had worked under Pulis when most fans thought we were *****. He was never and never will be the right appointment.

the next one for Gibson is huge

hes in a tough spot Woodgate but he knew what football management brings.
He's not in a tough spot though, he's completely out of his depth. Apart from the two wins at WBA and Preston there has been nothing to write home about this season. The wins against Stoke and Huddersfield just papered over the massive gaping cracks.

Stepping back from this, you do wonder who the heck would appoint Woodgate as a manager. Who would have done last summer? I know there was no chance of getting an Arteta, but assistant coaches tend to get a bit of talk when managerial vacancies come up. You didn't see Woody being linked with (say) Blackpool or whoever. The only club that was ever going to appoint him was us. You can't imagine a chairman of a lower division team now thinking "well, look at that job he's done, he's my man". I feel sorry for the poor sod, I really do because you could probably make a strong argument that this will be his one and only ever top managerial job, and the confluence of events plus his own ineptitude has probably scuppered him.

It's like the Alves thing all over again. There was a reason that other clubs weren't lining up to give Herenveen £12m - and there's a reason why other clubs weren't banging the door down asking for Woody as their manager.

But then again Sol Campbell keeps getting gigs.

As for top draw managers, as said, a lot depends on the definition of top drawer. We have had managers who either were or went on to be International managers. Charlton, Venables, McClaren and Southgate, (ahem) Strachan. Rioch went on to manage Arsenal, Neal Chelsea.

I appreciate that the point is they were not top drawer when appointed other than perhaps El Tel, and some on that list never were or will be despite managing their country or higher profile clubs though

Dood - never looked at it like that. Proper depressing!
Ok finny, small ray of sunshine on a depressing winter Monday for you.
Regular readers will know that I have an inkling on how Gibson thinks and that I told the old board that he'd give Woodgate the job way before Pulis even announced he was leaving and all the conjecture about Kompany, Jokanovic etc even kicked in.
At this moment, with no natural successor there to come in, I have no idea who will eventually take over so in that sense there's as much chance of us stumbling on a Stevie Mac or an Aitor as there is of us employing Mr Bobby.

Ive enjoyed most of the home games barring the last 3 and Pulis was just as bad at home if not worse.

I comment on how we play afterwards, but like life its about talking of solutions when youre in a tough spot. Surely when you played football you listened and talked of how you would put things right?

If only you hadn’t used the word eventually ;)

"Who appointed rookie southgate and sold quality players and replaced them with poundland replacements?"

This is literally where the whole downfall of the club started:(
