Woodgate first team coach !!

What happened to these world class ex man United coaches that were apparently following him? If they were out of a club you would have thought they would have been announced now

Does he though? Couldn't wait to be off when Spurs came calling despite only having signed a contract 6 months earlier. Properly knackered us at the time, and was a significant contributer to Southgate getting relegated. I wouldn't have done it personally.

It's human nature mate. Declan Rice will leave west ham.

It's happened 100's times with players.

I hope it works out, because I want the club to be successful, but there was zero evidence during Woodgate's reign of him knowing what he was doing as a coach. Bournemouth had a very strong squad for this division, but he achieved nothing with them.

To be fair, he's one of two appointments here that help me think this is overall a more positive restructure, with people all aligned with the overall objectives, than only Carrick coming in with a team to oversee first team matters.

Woodgate - an excellent coach, by all accounts, he just isn't the man to have on the touchline to make big decisions when the game is going against you
Leo as head of development - I can't think of a better person suited to that role at Middlesbrough than this guy

I'm actually a lot more excited about the mid term future of the club now. Just need Carrick not to let this season fizzle out too early.

As shocking as the Woodgate news is, I am going to have to try and ignore it because it will put a cloud over the whole Carrick appointment.

Need to see an interview from the new gaffer asap.

The '...further appointment expected' is probably the key part of the announcement. There have been murmerings about Meulensteen, who has contractual stuff with the Aussie team until WC, so maybe something there?

Most of us will have worked with people who are highly effective middle managers but not so great when asked to lead from the front.

You never know, Woodgate might actually be pretty good at carrying out instructions from above, rather than having to do the strategic oversight himself. My view is that coming back shows that he's a guy not led by ego.

It may even be the case that Carrick wanted someone who knows the club as he finds his feet.

Really pleased we got Carrick. Not just for my bet but I think he will really improve our midfield currently and will take the club forward with the values he brings. Woodgate did really well at Bournemouth and will gave learned from his mistakes here. Hopefully everyone will get behind this.

Can you stop being so positive and logical. Good appointment for me, knows the club and a fair few of the players.

I was pretty sure Woody posted on here a while back. Mixed reviews to him being back - hope he can take something from the positive feedbacks from a fair number of posters.
