Woodgate first team coach !!

Get off Woodgate’s back. Everyone saying “it’s important Carrick gets who he wants,” etc are now moaning because he’s picked Woodgate. You have to love it. They’ll never be satisfied, will they.

Good luck to Carrick, Woodgate and the rest of the staff.
Some people can’t get through the day without moaning about things, let’s just see what happens shall we.

Couldn't really care less about Woodgate. The key is the "one other". If that's Phelan or Meulensteen (or someone of similar experience) then great. That'll do.

Unfortunately the club have a track record of promising stuff and then failing to deliver. Don't think it'd shock anyone if we failed to get anyone else in.

That said, let's reserve judgement till it's all finalised.

I expect that it's taken 3 weeks because Woodgate was not first choice. However I doubt Carrick will have had someone he didn't want foisted on him so I expect that he is happy enough to have Woody on board. Also let's wait and see who the other appointment is.

Would sooner have Woodgate than young Bruce, but it's an appointment that's sorely lacking ambition or thought when it seems fairly likely that there's no genuine experience coming in beyond Woodgate who was statistically one of our worst managers in history.

There is no chance in hell that Carrick picked Woodgate himself.

What was the delay then? I’m sure Woodgate took absolutely no persuading.

Two of Carrick's other choices (if rumours are to be believed) were Rene Meulensteen who's under contract with Australia, and John O'Shea who's under contract with Stoke.

Gibson wanted Leo in the mix. Carrick wanted his mate Alex Bruce - I'm guessing they settled on Woodgate as a common middle ground.

Do you think Mrs Carrick might’ve had an opinion on this? Maybe the new gaffer values her opinion. Perhaps he was thinking about the impact on his family, moving his kids out of school, possible commutes, distances, contracts, houses. There’s details, agents, fees, talks and more talks, interviews, questions and answers, more discussions.

Just because Wilder popped up the day after Warnock left doesn’t mean he was offered the job that morning and accepted it.

I don’t really see why people have an issue with the timing. They moan when we rush in and overpay, they moan when we and those involved take some time to make sure it’s right. Strangely, there never seems to be a sweet spot where these serial moaners and miserablists are appeased and positive about something the club has done.

There could be numerous reasons, but hey, let's just make some up without any knowledge as to what has been negotiated.
Of course there could be numerous reasons but the situation doesn’t really make a lot of sense. If the rumours about the delay being due to sorting the backroom staff out are true then it’s even more bizarre.

"Rumours about the delay" it was a couple of weeks. The mental gymnastics to find conspiracies in everything is mind boggling.

Why are gibbo’s wants a factor? Why even have Scott?

I seem to suspect that the Woodgate appointment was the hold up - I could imagine Bausor didn't want to have Woodgate back in the Club following his dismissal. If Carrick wanted Woodgate and the Club could not generate more managerial interest from a reputable individual, the Club may have given in.
Cant beat an imaginary scenario like this.

I don't really understand how anyone can comment on how good or bad a coach appointment is. We literally see nothing to judge them on individually. We have no idea who is coaching what or where they fit in.

Ideally yes we would have some experience along with carrick and woodgate but the article says there is more to come.
