Womans football

They had 45k (mostly kids) in Wembley at the weekend for the FA Cup final. TalkSPORT covered it of course (some loose change) in it for them but as far as who watches it then I’m sure there’s an audience, but it can’t compete with the men’s game.

I’m sure with better marketing and possibly more time to develop players it’ll attract a bigger audience. The question is of course will the British public pay to see a sub standard game that has so many (quality) football leagues there’s hardly any room for another game nevermind another league.

Even the women’s game in the US can’t gain an audience at league so I’m very skeptical if it’ll work in Europe. I’m pretty sure the women’s international game will continue to gain traction as FIFA has the sponsors have already signed up, but whether or not the men’s game will continue to support and possibly subsidize the women’s is anyone’s guess.

Its getting bigger and attracting more Audiences as time goes quickly by
My daughter plays and is now 14 and the increase over the last 6 yrs of her playing football has been massive

we now have games on TV every week which are gaining more Audiences and that then gets more into the sport which then gains a bigger pool of skilled players which will gain better football

Numbers from the FA show participation in women’s and girls’ football is continuing to rise whereas the only demographic that is playing less is open aged, non-disability males.

It’s still relatively early days for the women’s game so can completely understand the disparity in prize money. One of the things holding back the women’s game for me is the standard of goalkeeping. I’ve seen one or two decent keepers but the vast majority barely make a save that isn’t routine.
I get the height differential between men and women is a factor but they seem reluctant to throw themselves around and make saves. And when do you ever hear a commentator comment in glaring goalkeeping flaws that would never pass without comment in the men’s game.
I’d look to women‘s rugby and see if they can pick up goalkeepers there Or some other of the more physical sports.

I have tried watching a couple of times, but the standard is just so bad.

I watched the Latvia v England highlights, and the Latvian keeper could barely kick it long enough to get out of her own penalty box, let alone get it to the halfway line.

It really is very poor.

Isn't it about finding out who is the best team in women's football?

Of course Chelsea's men would beat Chelsea's ladies, we already know that. That's not the point. It's about the best women's teams playing leagues against each other, not confirming men can run faster and jump higher than women.

Any game with a scoreline of 20-0 is beyond farcical and not worth watching. Saying that i find most mens international football games tedious as well

The womens Premier league is ousting the championship for media courage despite the championship being far more popular and arguably of a much higher standard. Its clear to see it is not about quality of football.

There's a lot more quality in the lower league mens games too.

It's starting to become very much forced upon us by tv, newspapers, media, pundits etc.

I remember seeing earlier this year, the England cricket match was on main event on skysports, and in the middle of an over, they switched it off for coverage of womens football. They didn't even wait for the over to finish.

Now I'm certainly not against womens football or having it on TV, but having womens football as the main event over England cricket? Are Skysports seriously suggesting womens football will attract more viewers than an England cricket match?

Personally I don't think most mens football matches should take priority over an England competitive cricket match as the main event.

The mens game is far superior at most levels to the highest womens level.

Im not saying it shouldn't get coverage, but get its fair share based on quality.

However, because of equality, it gets shown more and more, and the TV and media tell us that its a great standard. The same as the female commentators, there's a couple of good ones, but most are poor but they get the job above a man.

I've coached both boys and girls at grassroots. Massive difference in attitude and ability. Boys will listen to coaching drills, girls will be doing handstands.

I imagine this site is going to be one of those last bastions of "old school" thinking.

Constant threads complaining about women sports and EVs and "woke" As the rest of the world moves on and embraces it.

It's funny how many negative threads on women football there are.

EVs :D. Just dont have enough range for me ;)

Womens football isn't mens football. It is great that it is getting coverage, and it is great for generating role models. I don't really get why people watch i'm a celebrity, but for some reason its on tele a lot. Down with things i'm not interest in!

As for prize money- I think all sport should organise prizes according to the money the event generates. If it is 1.9million vs 25k then so be it.

its not complaining about womens football but complaining about the excessive promotion and media coverage in comparison to genuine interest. the EFL including the championship is being squeezed out and marginalised at the expense of womens football you only have to look at the bbc or guardian websites to see that. So yes I begrudge hearing about Chelsea women's team before a top of the table championship clash absolutely.

We have been absolutely saturated with mens football for a long time. It is everywhere. Premier league, Championship, and good quality European leagues, plus the European competitions and internationals.

Many fans will directly compare Women's football with mens, and that is not really fair. Women's football does not have great depth in quality - you can see that from some of the very one-sided score lines that are quite common in women's football. It like a developing / niche sport compared with the mens game. I wonder if there are not enough top quality players to fill the clubs, and that is perhaps why we see so many one-sided games.

Not sure what the answer is. When womens rugby 7s was introduced at the Commonwealth games a few years ago, it was just as good to watch as the mens sport.

To be fair, I see a lot of posts on here complaining about the football and not the coverage. Why is it such an issue for you that you need to scroll down an extra half a page to read about the football that interests you?

I don't understand that. Don't watch it if you don't like it, don't read about it if you're not interested. How is that an inconvenience I have next to no interest in golf or rugby, it doesn't bother me when it's on the telly. Why would it?

because news reports and websites are putting womens superleague reports before the championship, its increasingly difficult to get any info on the championship, less and less is getting covered and reported. The Guardian football website for example never has anything about the championship on its Football front page anymore you have to root to find it, its almost non-league level coverage.
