Winter Fuel Allowance decision is a massive own goal

Those with the broadest shoulders are fleeing the country. 10 thousand millionaires expected to leave the UK in 2024

This comes out every time. The numbers are plucked out of thin air.
They ‘say’ they will leave and, no doubt some will.
Let’s have the conversation based on the evidence after they have gone - if they go.

But, let’s get real. Many of them have family and friends here and for the sake of few bob are unlikely to up and go.

This isn’t going to be an attack on them to put them into squalor.

Some will go - so be it.

Just done a google search btw - there are around 3m millionaires in the UK
Even if the 10k number is correct…?

This was a quote from Rachel Reeves in 2022, didn’t take her long to forget. Horrible woman

every single one of those MPs that voted for this shambles has blood on their hands for this... They will be feeling the wrath of this for years to come.

I emailed our MP Luke who had really been keen to hear my thoughts a few months ago about pensions and the fuel relief. He sent leaflets , sent underlings and then came himself to my house and explained how Labour would keep the triple lock and the fuel bonus.
I emailed him to ask why this has changed. E mailed him 3 times and no response. My 4th one explained to him how it had taken 10 years to get my vote back for Labour but just 4 weeks to lose it again. Didn't reply to that either.

He was round mine the other day yapping on, obviously does not have a backbone like the rest of the laughing stock.

Pensioners are getting more of an increase from the triple lock than they'll lose from the winter fuel allowance. The majority of the backlash is from entitled pensioners that don't need the allowance but will have to do into savings to pay for one of their holidays.

And the RW media. They are loving it.

If you have elderly parents keep an eye on them. My old dad, despite having plenty of money in his bank turned his heating down and was sat in a cold house because he had read the scare stories that he might not be able to afford to pay. The scare stories can be as dangerous as the truth. I told my dad he had enough in his bank to keep his house warm if he lived to 120. He passed away at the ripe old age of 95 in a warm house.
My in laws are the same, plenty of money but were keeping heating low or off because of how expensive they read it is.

There isn't a single country in the world...
There wasn't a single country in the world that used postage stamps at one point, then the UK became the first to do so.

You live in cloud cuckoo land. You want a wealth tax that involves means testing but you don't want the WFA to be subject to the same principle.
If means-testing is economical then use it to tax wealth, first. If you then need to take money off pensioners to fill your imaginary holes then feel free.

That's the sort of crackpot analogy I'd expect from you.

If means-testing is economical then use it to tax wealth, first. If you then need to take money off pensioners to fill your imaginary holes then feel free.
The trouble is you and your sort pontificate about a wealth tax but you can't even put your heads together to come up with the outline of an idea.
Is it an annual tax or a one off?
Are pension pots, private or occupational, included in the calculation?
Does your property count, mortgaged or owned outright?
Is the value of your car included?
Is it 5%, 10%, 12%?
Is it on £100k, £500k, £1m?
You're supposed to have a degree of intelligence apparently.
