Winter Fuel Allowance decision is a massive own goal

No, no, no.

I will quote you again:

Come on then, seeing as you know everything about me tell me what I benefit from personally that you don't.

"I haven't said that you benefit from things I don't"

What is it that I so obviously benefit from and whch you do also, that means I desire to maintain the status-quo in order to retain that benefit yet you wish to champion actual change so that we both lose the same benefit?
You benefit from the status quo. Not a benefit derived from the status quo but the status quo itself.

Maintaining the status quo is something you appear to be happy with from reading your posts.

I'm using "benefit" as an antonym to "detriment". I can logically assume, from your posts, that a change to the status quo based on the suggestions I (and others) have proposed would be detrimental to you in some way.

Therefore maintaining the status quo is beneficial. It's not a value judgement just an observation.

Then, respectfully, your assumption would be incorrect. I wouldn’t be affected if a wealth tax was introduced. I earn more than any suggested level of UBI so no impact there. I'm 10 years away from state pension age so the WFA is not a consideration. Having worked all my life I know what my state pension is projected to be and it's the same as millions of others. Besides, who knows what will happen in the next 10 years regardless of who is governing. In fact, there's a potential that maintaing the status quo will be detrimental to me personally in a number of ways but it is what it is.

And in respect of me not advocating for change, I'd be interested to learn how you advocate for change personally if at all. I don't think my anonymous postings on a football message board can be categorised as a rejection of change.

UBIs should be means-independent i.e. everybody gets them ( possibly restricted to adults). Depending on how they are financed, you may or may not be a net beneficiary.

I'm not advocating for it so I'm not bothered.

Saw a group of pensioners outside the Labour Conference on the news
They looked really hard up in the cold in their North Face jackets

You know nothing aboutthem, the jackets could have been bought when they were working or by relatives, but your obviously not allowed anything nice once your struggling. Perhaps they should put them on Ebay then they could pay this month's gas bill

That’s the tactic Reform voting pensioners were using towards others.
You can’t have it both ways!

My Dad has his pension and lives in a council estate and doesn’t need the winter fuel payment.
The country has been left virtually bankrupt by the Tories and the pensioners have had their triple lock protected which is a lot of financial commitment by the government.

Millions upon millions of pensioners don’t need the payment and the NHS fcuking well does need that money!!

There is no balance anymore from broadcasting and this country is going to be sleep walking into the grip of Reform as the next government with the media in this country and then we’ll all be fcuked

Yes but people have to start thinking for themselves a bit.

Labours argument that the fuel allowance should be means tested is cast iron, no other benefits are given out without means testing and why should tax payers money be thrown around?

But look at the reaction on this forum alone?

If they get Reform they will deserve it.

Most on here who are critical of this, me included, have no issue with means testing in general.

It’s the level it’s been set at that is the issue.

I’m not sure you are right I’ve seen posts on here (not by you) saying this should be a universal benefit because poorer pensioners don’t know how to claim pension extras.

I think that is ridiculous personally, if a system is wrong you change the system don’t you?

That’s why I said most and not all 👍
