Will the new Mayor get a grip on begging in Middlesbrough town center ?

I got out of a taxi the other day and within 5 mins I was asked for a quid at least 10 times. Its really puts me off visiting these days

Its common in every town and city in the country.
No one sits in the gutter begging because they want to.
It may be annoying - but King Charlie had the London Streets "cleaned" of the peasants for his pantomime.
Pizzes me off: anyone seen the lads sleeping under the arches in Brixton and around London Bridge?
A lot of them are ex-soldiers.
What do people intend to do?
Spray them with paint like that twit did in Redcar?

Certain towns have a bigger problem than others but any sizeable conurbation has homeless people desperate for help.

Sadly it's not new and it's not a Middlesbrough problem alone. Even 20 years ago it was common to be asked for 20p by people in the town centre.

Most Metro stations in Tyneside will have someone trying to squeeze a coin from you and I've even had people knock on my window while sat in traffic on Tower Bridge to see if I could give them a few quid. (Typical London price spikes)

On a night match returning from the ground through the two underpasses there is always beggars positioned there. Once I dropped a Mars Bar in his begging bowl, wasn’t happy with that, wanted cash. I flatly refuse to give cash, no doubt it’s for drugs?

Maybe not. He probably just realised you were trying to be a smarty pants.

I've twice given ones with dogs a pack of dog treats - to be fair they both said thanks
