Will he stay another season as a player ?

He's one of our few players with any real PL experience.
That was something we badly lacked last time, and we won't acquire it by signing promising up and comers.

I'd want him in the squad for leadership as much as anything else next year, wherever we are.
 
Definitely should offer him a one year extension, which I'm sure he would accept.

Whether he's a starter or not next season will depend on whether Barlsaer can prove he is ready to step up to the plate, although if we go up I feel another midfielder will need to be signed regardless.
 
Obviously yes.

"Carrickball" has benefited most our players, but its probably extended Howson's career by at least another year, if not more.

Suits him perfectly and requires a lot less running than some of the other "styles" we've adopted in recent years.

Don't think it's any coincidence Carrick was a premier league regular himself till he was 36. It's not about how fast you can run around if you've got a football brain.

What I like, Carrick goes to Howson after every game and puts his arm around him. You can tell Howson respects the advice he's receiving from Carrick.

What a manager Carrick is and Howson's been a great servant to the club who deserves another year on his contract.
 
well I can't think of reasons to not give him a deal, its just if he would accept lower wages possibly if thats the clubs intention.

think be more a case of does he want to sign for us rather than do we want to give him another year.

even if he drops down to a sub I think based off what people said about the likes of bamba that he fits that mould of a great player to have around the team even if the game time is limtied.

but saying that I dont see reason to drop him right now so next season would take some nice aquisitions and/or the new lad to really step up to take him out,

he's like fry always hits a point where everyone starts to write him off and after that everyone starts singing their praises again
