The bairn cannot recieve a decent signal for her smart TV in her room so I am looking for a signal booster. (Or sig nal repeater, I don't know if there is a difference.) I have been looking at various devices on line and I am totally flummoxed. Some are 2.4 ghz and some are 5 ghz and I have even seen one at 8.4 ghz. I have a Virgin router but cannot see what ghz that is. Can anyone tell me what I need to improve the signal in the bairns room please? We live in bungalw if that is any help.Thank you.

One of the techy guys recommended this a week or so ago, not the cheapest thing to be fair, but apparently good peice of kit

Thanks Dood- it does seem a lot of money just to transmit a signal into the bairns room, everywhere else in the house is fine.

There are much cheaper versions available, I bought a plug in the wall type thing for about £20 which helps boost the signal to the office in the loft, but I don't think that provides the same degree of coverage as that mesh network thingy I posted. Might be sufficient for what you need though. Unfortunately, I think the only way to find out is to plump for something though

A power line adaptor might be a better option than a WiFi extender.
The TV has 5 GHz WiFi which has a better speed but a lower signal range which may explain why it struggles to connect to your router.
If you have a spare plug socket next to your router and next to the TV then you could get a pair of power line adapters from somewhere like Currys or Argos and hook up the router to one adapter with an ethernet cable and the connect the TV to the other adapter again with an ethernet cable.

If you do need to go WiFi then a 5ghz extender will be your best bet.

You can also get versions with a socket on the front so you don't need a spare socket.
I've used the TP-Link ones before

Thank you very much guys. Dood, I am quite thick on this sort of thing so could you just explain to me a bit more please? The power line adapter kit you showed me seems to be what I need. Is my understanding of this correct:- I plug one one the devices into a socket next to the router and then connect the router and device together with an ethernet cable. I plug the other device into a socket next to the TV and then connect the TV and device together with an ethernet cable. The kit comes with only one ethernet cable so I am not sure if I am understanding properly. Thank you
