He was a false nine before anyone knew what to call them.I don’t think so, I remember him coming from midfield to nod them home.

So you’re calling him a trailblazer? A real football man!He was a false nine before anyone knew what to call them.
For every balon door winner there is someone who goes unnoticed that led the way and inspired the famous one.So you’re calling him a trailblazer? A real football man!
Appreciate that this thread has been “Cressed up” but your original thread title was a bit ill thought out and unnecessary. I see the point you have laboured to get across but if you realise that the likes of Ince, Parlour and Townsend all did jobs for us over a couple of seasons at the most then surely you will understand that they arent going to make an all time top X1 in positions where we have had many great players. Yes Merson was only with us for one season but that season he pretty much hauled us back up to the PL in a magical season of form.Ok title changed as can’t keep explaining the point.
you missed out spence as well. once a red always a redI suppose thinking about it why should we expect players to feel the same emotional connection and buy into the club that we have as fans. It's nice when it happens (e.g Bernie, Juninho, Boateng etc). However at the end of the day its largely a job for them in a short career and many look to maximise their income.
Haroun wasn't a 'false nine'. He was a central midfielder. He was a false nine before anyone knew what to call them.
“they did listen.. they did not know how”Haroun wasn't a 'false nine'. He was a central midfielder.
Rightly so, and I say that as a big Ince fan. Emerson was part of a mindset change at the club and on his day was unplayable. I remember taking a geordie fan to the friendly against Inter and he instantly adored Emerson. I remember Ince for Inter trying to shoulder barge Emerson and he ended up face down on the floor.Ince does get mentioned from time to time, but tends to fall behind Emerson and George.
I could never decide if his name was Faris Haroun or Harris Faroun and ended using both names interchangeably.Aren’t you forgetting someone? View attachment 48837
It's Boateng and Zenden for me central midfield as they were such a good pairing and balanced perfectly with eachother.Rightly so, and I say that as a big Ince fan. Boat, for a couple of seasons had the best defensive midfielder stats in the premier league, he was vastly under rated basically because he didn't shoot very often or play penetrating passes, but he was vital to us and our form always plumeted when he was injured.
Played more games for boro than West Ham, Liverpool or Inter Milan.. yet it feels like he shows much more love to those teams.Ince should absolutely get more time and love from the fans. He was excellent. Parlour, I guess he felt like a loan signing doing well for 6 months then kinda disappearing into the vortex before leaving. Shame because I thought he looked perfect for us in those first 6 months.
Does he? The only comments i've seem him make about Boro were very positive.Played more games for boro than West Ham, Liverpool or Inter Milan.. yet it feels like he shows much more love to those teams.
Maybe it’s other commentators asking him about more fashionable clubs.Does he? The only comments i've seem him make about Boro were very positive.
Sliding doors moment maybe? Do we win the cup in Paul Ince stays on.. do we have those two seasons in Europe? Does Douthgate get the nod over Paul Ince to take over?I had a very pleasant afternoon in a bar in Monaco with Ince watching Man Utd v Liverpool on transfer deadline day, he was Blackpool manager at the time and trying to avoid taking calls as his son, Tom, was linked with moves to plenty of Premier league clubs.
He was very complimentary about his time at the club, said they should have won a cup as on their day they were capable of beating anyone, regretted leaving and he should have taken the offer to stay but him and McClaren didn't get on.
The only downside was he called Boro fans Geordies but he did pay for our drinks tab on the quiet before he left.
