Why does Warnock feel the need to STILL criticise Payero?

Or maybe Leo can't get the message across to him?

Can just imagine it.

Warnock "Leo tell him hes sh1te, and to stop playing the ball on the ground"

Leo " Martin lad, the gaffer says your doing well" (in
Spanish)

Payero “ why does he keep shouting at me and making angry faces then?” (In Spanish)

Leo “ he’s just full of wind and angry that half the team can’t pass a ball 10 yards” (in Spanish)

Payero “ okay thanks Leo (in Spanish)

Warnock “ did you tell him Leo?

Leo “ Yes boss, I told him what he needed to hear.”

It really is becoming tiresome the way Warnock handles Payero. The lad puts in arguably a man of the match performance yet Warnock appears to concentrate on raising the negatives in equal doses as the positives.

Frankly, Payero needs to feel wanted and valued by the club and management . I question if Warnock grasps this. There is a player there for sure, maybe Warnock needs to analyse his words more carefully- or maybe he has lost touch with the multi facets required for handling the different mindsets of players. Frankly, Payero could be more important to us than a final season manager.
It’s frustrating I know I go on about him a lot on here but it’s mainly due to what I see which is a reluctance from the manager to give the kid a break.

he’s exactly what we need

he’s still young came fresh from Argentina didn’t speak the language and he has this guy supposedly his boss carping at him.

The latest in a line of goal scoring midfielders that Boro transform into defensive midfielders!

haha yea true, more performances like saturday though and i'd be more than happy him staying there to be honest! That would also (hopefully) result in Payero getting a run of games in the number 10 role, the quicker he's up to speed the better.

I think the problem Payero has is the same problem Bamford and Braithwaite (even if he was a snake) had under Pulis.

He's just not the type of player his manager wants. And because Warnock is so set in his ways it almost doesn't matter how well Payero performs, he's going to be unimpressed until Payero can do what he wants from a centre midfielder which is more to do with his work off the ball than what he does with the ball.

Just my opinion but I think Warnock wants the creative spark to primarily come from his wingers and forwards. The rest of the team are expected to work their nuts off and provide a platform. He wants his midfield and defence to be those players he talks about who he "knows what he's getting from" week in week out.

That's not Payero's game. His strengths are mostly related to what can do with the ball and I think that's quite low down on Warnock's priorities for that position.

So while the rest of us are enjoying his passing or him surging past players, I suspect Warnock is stood there seething about the runner he let go 5 mins earlier.

I agree, he's a monster and easily capable of getting up with the play and still scoring goals from deeper areas.

I think Warnock feels the need to criticise because he hides from blame. I think it's as simple as that.

Leo for managers job he get the best out of Payero
I've said that before and got poo-pooed. It would make a lot of sense in many ways.

If we are looking to bring in young talent from South America (as seems to be the case) it would make sense too. Pipe dream maybe...

If we gave Warock the boot, wouldnt mind giving him a spell as caretaker and see how he did, couldnt be any worse than Agnew, Woodgate or Strachan.
