Why are people so quick to take information from spurious non credible sources

MSM is called that for a reason it has to abide by certain laws and regulations be that the left or the right. Journalists are there to report facts news and yes opinion but in a codified way.

Yes it seems people these days are all too happy to turn away from real news streams and sources and accept stories from any Tom d*ck or Harry they see on line as gospel.

Be that Facebook twitter etc or other forms of social media or some fly by night website.

I’m still amazed at how seemingly ration educated people will trust these sites over more respected news outlets.

Crazy isn't it? But I suppose that's what you get when those in power have been telling us that experts are clueless and the MSM are telling us lies.

Unfortunately there are many people that don't have the intelligence to see through this and will just believe any old rubbish without trying to investigate themselves.

Not sure I should take your post seriously or not now 😀

The only people to blame for this are MSM themselves.

Which are what?

These "respected" news outlets like the BBC who has among its ranks Laura Kuenssberg who exemplifies complete and utter incompetence and peddles rumour and gossip from so-called sources because she's so desperate to break stories?

People turn away from the MSM because they regularly show themselves and partisan and untrustworthy, that's not to say the alternative media sources aren't of course.

People are happy to believe anything that fits their own world view, often manifesting in believing in non credible sources whilst applying excessive scrutiny to more trustworthy stories. Unfortunately many people's views are becoming more extreme as a result, giving this material further ability to spread. It's a vicious circle really

Too many people are zebras. They don't want their beliefs undermined.

Zebra stands for Zero Evidence but Really Adamant. Zebras are people who see things in black and white. They are sure of their own opinions and they disdain information or science which undermines their beliefs. The king of the Zebras is Donald Trump.

Tom Nichols is the author of the 2017 book, The Death of Expertise. In it he writes that ignorance is now seen as a virtue. ‘To reject the advice of experts is to assert autonomy, a way for people to demonstrate independence from nefarious elites and to insulate their fragile egos from ever being told that they are wrong.’

The way we access media has changed so dramatically in the last 10 years it's frightening how it can be deliberately manipulated. The MSM are bad enough, but more so its organisations such as Cambridge Analyltica that are the most concerning.

Fake news has always been around (there's a great Ian Hislop documentary on iPlayer if anyones interested), but its on a scale now thats unprecedented.

Totally agree except for Trump. I think he creates that mentality in his supporters, but I'm not sure he's adamant in his beliefs, he's just willing to say anything to suit the narrative he's created.

You only have to watch Kay burley or piers Morgan to think I’d rather believe or listen to anything else except those two, they don’t even try to hide their Agenda and are out and out rude.

In the last coupe of years we have had the so called MSM misinforming the public on a daily basis on the basis of their editorial bias. We have ended up leaving the EU and giving a massive majority to this government on the back of it.

Where on earth, and who decides were the non spurious, reliable news media is?

People want to feel like they know something others don’t, that’s why they always get and laude it others and mock them for believing with the other sheep

If you’re the sort to believe those things you generally have a mistrust for official sources or government so will believe anything that fits your narrative

Throughout this year, with the pandemic / US election I’ve been more interested in people’s views on things.

Time and time again regardless of the subject, I see the same things said over and over, on Twitter, news article comments, even here occasionally.

Sheeple, you trust the MSM too much, do your own research, etc. These terms have been regurgitated over and over by different people, without any actual meaning to them. It’s like they’re a caricature of each other.

The ironic thing is most of these people wouldn’t know how to conduct valid research if their life depended on it and are just repeating what they’ve been told by whatever alternative media source they are subscribed to.

whilst applying excessive scrutiny to more trustworthy stories.
That’s true

Btw I’m not saying just watch the bbc only but watch bbc then itv then ch 4 then Reuters then AP look at a local angle, check out huff post cnn nbc channel 9 etc

Check the guardian the times the Indy etc

Then move on to industry journals periodical the bmj lancet etc

Get an overall picture

But use sites that have credibility
