Who would we keep in this squad in the prem…

You’d keep almost all of them wouldn’t you? If this group get promoted then they’ll deserve a shot at the league above. Not like last time we went up, when a dozen signings arrived and completely upset the balance - and didn’t really improve us in the grand scheme of things.

I’d like to think we’d keep the 17, 18 or 19 seniors and supplement them with 3, 4, 5 real quality players and then see how we go, rather than wholesale change.

We'd need strong reinforcements, we'd probably need to bring in replacements in certain positions in the starting 11.

But I think plenty of the squad would be able to play in the top flight, even if some would only be as a sub.

I think Smith has been great and I'd offer him a 2 year contract extension, but I don't think I'd have him as our starting right back if we were promoted.

Likewise, Giles has been brilliant for us, but I think he could struggle with the jump.

We'd need a new main striker too.

Fullbacks, Central Defender, Central Midfielder, Left Winger & A Striker.. but all class premier league quality.

As a general policy I'd bring in no more than three new players any summer. Ideally all of them intended starter's.

Should that last apostrophe be there? Autowhatever added it to my surprise.

I'll turn to considering next seasons squad once we are certain which division we're in. If promoted it would be more adding to than releasing, esp first team squad players.

THREE!

Clarke, Mowett & Muniz?

We've got Steffen, Giles, Archer & Ramsey to try and keep hold of!

Smith & Howson are out of contract.. Fisher & Daniels are off..

Looking at our current 11 I genuinely think only Fry, McGree and Akpom are probably "good enough". It's a pretty big leap to the Prem.

That said, someone mentions above becoming a yo-yo club - I'd take that all day long, essentially allows you to recruit over a few years with significant financial clout. Fulham for example, reaping the rewards this season

Fulham are reaping the rewards of £300m of equity injected in by their owner in the 4 years to June 2021.
Fulham have made incredible losses, simply covered by their owner with new equity, not loans.

It is nonsense to think that the current squad needs only minor tweaks to survive. It needs an injection of PL quality.
Last time 2016-17 the investment was ridiculously low and the recruitment with that investment was terrible.
We can't realistically afford to buy top drawer established PL players yet, but could buy those who have been identified as having the ability from Championship, foreign leagues and other squads.

MFC will need to invest more and much better this time.
I think they will.

That's the way I think MC will go as well viv

Fry is a doubt

Chuba, Archer if we sign him. Hackney potentially for the future not many more. Giles and lenihan fringes but again it’s debateable, we are playing some fantastic stuff and what carrick has done is brilliant but this current squad would need a bit of overhaul imo

Dominic Livakovic Dinamo Zagreb keeper £10m
Jacob Greaves £10m
Ryan Manning on a free
Ettiene Camara £2m
Calvin Ramsay loan or Connor Bradley OOC ?
Illias Chair £10m
Gyokeres £15m
Ilman Ndaiye £15m

Replacing
Steffen
Daniels
Clarke
Bola
Mowatt
Fischer
Ramsay
Muniz
Hoppe
Upgrade done .

I guarantee the club will be planning for all eventualities now…

I’m just asking about one outcome that we’re all hoping happens…

If! and it's still if we get promoted, Chuba on his current form would step up, Hackney possible. Archer but he's not our player.

Our squad is a good strong championship squad, with good championship quality players. this includes Giles & Steffen ( both not premiership quality and would not get in any current premiership team.

One way of looking at it, is how many of our players would get in West ham & Leeds Utds team? both 2nd & 3rd bottom. Akpom that's it.

Not a chance is Smith good enough to be playing in the Prem

GK, RB, CM, LW, CF are key positions to improve if we go up

That will cost around £50M to bring in the required quality

You saw how far away from Brighton we were when we played them. Clearly, that isn't who we'd be hoping to compete with, but still. We need to bring in a strong premiership quality spine, at least one keeper, centre back, midfielder and striker (hopefully Archer but unlikely) and hopefully sign Giles. Ideally players who would be happy to stay if we went down. And then a couple of loan signings.

That would hopefully be enough for us to battle against relegation and definitely set us up well to go straight back up the next season if we did go down.

Like you say though it isn't Brighton we will be trying to compete with. It's a few teams down the bottom and the two other promoted clubs. I wouldn't make wholesale changes. I'd sign Giles, Archer and maybe Steffen if we could. Then strengthen at RB and LM/RM. But we have a pretty young squad with a lot of potential and on the whole they should get a chance. We should also stick with Carrick regardless of results (unless it is a total disaster).

As many as possible. The worst thing that could happen to us is go up dismantle the team and then sack Carrick when we are bottom at Christmas and start the whole Monk/Pulis cycle all over again.

We have to have learned from our last foray into the prem. Hopefully sign Giles/archer. Add a few more players with some quality and potnetial but dont break the bank and roll the dice a la forest.

And if we do have a stinker, keep Carrick and scott et al and be in a far healthier postion in the championship to go again and bounce straight back up. Not spend 7 years in the championship before mounting a challenge!
