Who will be crying out in chorus an allegiance to the king?

I'm doubtless being pedantic here but clapping for nurses wasn't a meaningless gesture for me. It was for Johnson and co but I remain grateful for the NHS and all frontline workers who kept us alive during the worst of the pandemic.
Although I agree with your sentiment, I wonder if the nurses feel the same way as we do.

We had a poster on here last week calling the nurses for striking and then saying he fully backed them. The government is trying to divide people's opinions on the nurse's strike to win out.

I noticed Mark Harper said something similar regarding the rail strikes but all this is for another thread - we've got boots to lick on here. ;)

So we are bootlickers because we as a country turn out to welcome a new king to the throne, a tradition in this country that has lasted many hundreds of years but because a lot of modern society has decided they are bored with them or decided it is no longer relevant in their lives, we we are all bootlickers, you’re an odd ball son.
More on the ball than odd ball… you’ve nailed it on the head why he thinks you’re a bootlicker…😉

oh, and polls show there’s considerably less than 50% turning out to welcome him as “the one to lead us to the promised land…” so not the whole country…

Have you been asked by a poll if you are turning out to welcome the King? I know I haven't and sometimes wonder if these polls give a true reflection of people's opinions.

I do the yougov surveys regularly… may be not that exact question but I was one of the 75% who were either against or ambivalent to the coronation…

edit, 67% in this one…

Yes.

And now that they're being pushed to the limit it's time to stand alongside them.
I've said this from the off.

I noticed the government is starting to drip feed their bile into the press about how lives are being put at risk.

Instead of arguing about whether we should have a monarch or not, we should pick the real fights and tackle what is winnable. We need to get this lot out of government and an all-out strike should have be called.

This particular version of the event we are about to witness really only came about during the time of Queen Victoria.
When she totally withdrew from public life on the death of her husband, and the future of the monarchy was in danger of becoming less relevant. Just like now younger people are seen to have much less interest. So then, like now, out comes the Golden coaches and the dressing up box is opened and off we go. It has become an extension of showbiz…but very important because a lot power, open and hidden resides in its continuation.
I saw the Queen once in a department store out shopping with her friend. But that was the Danish Queen. That too is a constitutional monarchy…but it exists within a modern democracy. Politically. I’m a lifelong Republican.

I’m glad it was meaningful for you

I remember when their miserly pay rise was announced shortly after the clapping had stopped.
The clappers gave a little shrug of the shoulder and cracked on with their own lives.

Pledging your allegiance to a monarch who is there in a purely ceremonial capacity - does not get involved in running the country in any way shape or form - is a concept I can't get my head around.

The only time the Royal family has seemingly jumped in to change laws is when they desperately wanted to conceal it's wealth and avoid inheritance tax etc.

If they can influence politics, could Charles not step in to help the people? The poor, the homeless, the needy? A lot more people respect the Royal Family rather than our politicians so surely would be a win/win for them?

Not knocking any royalist btw, but I always think why can't they do more? 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

On the original OP - most certainly not. I’ve already talked enough about my feelings about The Monarchy.

The missus did eventually say the inevitable, “Our Mam has asked if we want to go round on Saturday 6th for a few drinks”.

I declared an immediate Code Red in the lads WhatsApp group and we’ve booked tickets and trains for Thirsk races. Sure it’ll be difficult to avoid the BS completely, but I’ll be out from Breakfast and returning home late doors.

All parties will enjoy their day much more thanks to my selfless actions.

The missus isn’t happy I’ve abandoned her like but I can’t be held responsible for her Mother and family forcing me into evasive action.

More like a billion, yet some of those within the sovereign nation itself find it a little bit embarrassing…..😁

Billions, worldwide, are shown footage of the military parades and massive support for the regimes in China and North Korea.

I don’t find that or the coronation embarrassing.

I do find both anachronistic and dehumanising.

Idolising and fawning over other adults because of stature, wealth or you are coerced (group think), etc is best consigned to history for me.

I suspect you think I'm one of 'those' clappers. I'm not. Both of my daughters worked on the NHS frontline throughout and when the clapping was done and they were refused the payrise, it finished their morale and both subsequently left the NHS. This government stinks. I'm of the left, always have been and NHS staff deserve much, much better.

Your suspicions are unfounded Harry
I believe you care

I also think the vast majority just got caught up in the occasion rather than the meaning.

I'm off to see The Dead Kennedys in Bristol on 'King Day', it seems appropriate some what 👍.

Never forget, one and all, that your future king of England said he wished to be reincarnated as a tampon so that he could live inside of the future queen.

Also worth looking at the 100 or so laws that his team got amended to help him avoid tax, planning regulations et al.
