Not the worst player, but the player that came with a big reputation that never really lived up to the star billing in a boro shirt.
 
I remember being very excited about the signing of Kris Boyd. Not because I had ever seen him play, but simply because when I watched "Final Score" on grandstand, he scored almost every week in Scotland, so I naievly expected him to do the same for us. I had visions of him being as good as Hasselbaink. :ROFLMAO:

As already mentioned, the excitement about Alves was short lived.

Even Lee Dong Gook arrived with some media hype, but quickly turned into a joke figure.

I'd argue he's one of the worst (about 10mil+ with wages). I wouldnt say he's 'disappointing' as most thought he was over priced and cr*p when we bought him.

I genuinely thought Kris Boyd would score loads for us. The sheer amount of goals and decent finishes for Rangers suggested he simply couldn't miss.

Going back a longtime I'd say Davenport. We simply didn't spend that amount of money on a 'name'. I guess the Boro ruining forwards curse happend as far back as that😂
 
As two posters have mentioned - Davenport and Boersma. Both had big reputations and their signings were really expected to improve us.

Neither lived up to their billing or reputation. I honestly thought Davenport was going to be the answer to our prayers and become the goal scoring striker we needed to follow on from Foggon and Big John.Sadly it just didn’t happen
 
+1 for Davenport - 750k wasnt it? We just didnt spend that kind of cash back then, was it double or previous highest fee paid? Wasnt his debut on live TV? Anyway, he was a rubbish signing for us

Gazza I wasnt happy about because I knew itd be a circus and not value for money, hated us being the club were players came to top up their pension pot
 
He’s not the answer to this question but Sam Morsy for me was very disappointing. As a huge football watcher I had seen plenty of him at Wigan and for them he was a great leader and looked a proper player. I thought it was a tremendous signing and said so at the time. I was maybe overly harsh on him while he was here but it was cos I was expecting so much more. He was poor and I’m glad he’s left us, says it all that it was league 1 where he headed.
