Who realistically could we attract as a new manager?

I don't really care that he might turn it around this season, which I take to mean we merely survive, because I am 100% confident that we will ever achieve anything with Woodgate as manager. We might "get by" for the rest of this season and maybe next but then halfway through the following season it will be undeniable that we are going nowhere and have to change it. We might as well do it now. I just don't see him having the capacity for learning and improving. Some people are obvious leaders and even with a lack of intelligence can inspire but Woodgate isn't even that.

What have you seen when at the game that makes you think that Mike ? Where about do you sit?I was listening to a bloke who said as much last home game.

I think it’s pretty obvious why he thinks that. We are 20th in the championship and haven’t a shot on target in 2 whole games and got 1 point against teams in the bottom 3 in the last 3 games. Were a shambles.

I think someone like Hughton is well out of our reach now. He probably was in the summer but I don't believe that we even considered him. Woodgate was probably being lined up long before Pulis was appointed over two years ago.

The likes of Nigel Adkins are about the best we could attract these days.

We had a huge opportunity last summer to make the right long term appointment that would have seen the club progress, but Gibson blew it.

I definitely don’t think Hughton is out of our reach, but he’d be coming into a role quite unlike most of the roles he’s “done well” in previously.

I dunno, the only other appointment that would make me think “this will definitely work” is Warnock, but I know that this time next year I’d be having all the same arguments with people that I had about Pulis.

I’m apathetic about Woodgate now, there are pros and cons with both sticking and twisting. The only thing I hope we learn from this is that the holy grail of a “long term plan” really is just chasing a rainbow. It rarely works out and football is a short-termist industry that requires a short-termist approach.

It wasn't me because I wasn't there. I don't live in the area so I don't have a season ticket. I was at Wigan the other week and we played 4 central midfielders in midfield with another one at right back. The next week we played most of the game with 4 strikers and nobody to create a chance for them. He fluked a formation that worked over Xmas due to injuries and now he has a decision to make on who to start he constantly makes the wrong ones.

I have seen and heard from him throughout his career. His lack of intelligence is well documented and his decision making is baffling.

I think a new assistant might be a good shout, and an experiences first team coach. Steve Walsh and Steve McClaren immediately spring to mind. They're out of work, we have an unexpected amount of cash and why not try a bit of a change for the last 12 games?

FFP will probably come into it I would guess. If they sack Woodgate that would eat into any available money.

As mentioned above, spending some of the Braithwaite bonus money on a mentor to work with Woodgate might be the best way out in the short term.

I’m not sure how much influence a mentor would actually have though, yes he will be able to give his opinion in certain situations but ultimately it will be Woodgates work on the training ground and his team selections and in game decisions. Whilst I think it would be beneficial in some areas I don’t think it would be the best move. I wouldn’t of minded such a move at the beginning of the season but now seems to late for that type of change imo. I think a managerial change is what’s needed, a new voice, new ideas. A motivator, someone who’s got experience in these dire situations.

Dunno, Warnock in as an emergency “coach” feels like it might work, and probably wouldn’t divide fans as much as a sacking.

Woody would probably accept the help in the knowledge that it might save his career, because if he is sacked he won’t be walking into any other jobs. He has to achieve something of a success here, by hook or by crook.

Hi, The only reason I am suggestion help is because of FFP. I think Woodgate's pay-off would eat into the Braithwaite bonus. So not leave much available for the wages of a new manager. My preference would be a more experienced replacement. However I am guessing we cannot afford that.

It wouldn’t divide fans I agree, don’t get me wrong I see the logic I just don’t think it’s right

I think the general consensus is a sacking is needed and a very short term replacement is needed. I don’t think many fans would bat an eyelid now if Woodgate was sacked right now. If we get in someone to help him it’s a nothing situation for me as I’m not convinced he would take things on board. I was with him until the Luton game, his in game decisions that game were abysmal. He’s lost the plot.

also his after game interviews aren’t doing himself any favours.

I think it would have to be on the premise that Warnock is very much “in charge” and that Woody has 12 games to learn as much from him as possible to keep him in a job til next season. Much like the Venables scenario, though of course that ended up with Robbo gone too.

I dunno, I’m confused about how I feel. I don’t really want a sixth manager inside 3 years and I don’t really see us getting relegated if I’m honest.

But we’re about as far away from the top flight as we’ve been in my time supporting the club to be honest.

As I said earlier, there's nobody already at the club who could take over.
Depending on what we could offer in wages will determine who would come in.
As far as anyone wanting to use us as a step-up to better things then I reckon they'd think twice if they or their agent did their due diligence. It's not an easy environment in which to flourish currently as there does seem to be a few constraints in place regarding the squad contracts and funds that may or may not be available.
Sol Campbell seems happy to take on any old job so that might be the sort of name we'd eventually be looking at.
