Who realistically could we attract as a new manager?

A few rumours last night suggesting Woodgate was/is getting sacked.

So if that is true (and even if it isn't....if our form doesn't improve then Gibbo will have to force the knife at come point), who can we realistically attract?

Judging from past history I can't see Gibson taking on a manager that currently has a job...it's not his style.

Warnock is the one getting shouted about more often than anyone else.

We should have had Gio Van Bronckhorst when he was available after he left Feyenoord. Can't believe no club in this country was interested.

If we improved the off field team and recruitment and gave the new manager a much healthier financial and talent base to work with then we'd have more options.
The club is a money pit and we have a poor, unbalanced squad which is going to be a challenge to anyone.

The fact remains that the job isn't one that is as appealing as it could be - whoever is in the post would find it a challenge.

And that isn't going to change anytime soon, so I'd stick with Woodgate and give him some time

Warnock has said he wants to finish his career on 1500 games. He managed 1488. We have 12 league games left. We are in a relegation battle. Get Warnock in, he will keep us up. Then have a huge re think in the summer and for once try and get an appointment right. Warnock will be remembered fondly as he will of did his job here. Woodgate isn’t upto it.

Come on Gibson you know it makes sense.

Warnock, or beg Pulis to come back until the end of the season

I wonder if the Braithwaite money can be used, and whether it opens up the possibility of a short-term lucrative managerial contract. It would be gamble as the £2m would be important for strengthening the squad if we were relegated. (I really can't understand the new £1m third-choice keeper signing!!)

For me somebody like Chris Hughton, lots of experiance and would relish the challenge of taking Boro forward. Whether we could afford him is another matter but I would say he is within reach.

Got to admit, Chris Houghton should be first on our list...assuming Gibbo refuses to take on a manager who is currently employed.
I’m surprised he’s still out of work to be honest. Surely he can’t go into next season without a club again.

Personally, I can't see wholesale changes just yet, and despite Gibson being a ruthless business man (etc), I don't think he will be quick to dump Woodgate (or Leo in particular), and I really can't imagine there being deals done behind the scenes that Woodgate is unaware of (a lesson learnt from the Southgate dismissal). If Gibson is considering changes, anything later than Nottingham Forest on the Monday, is too late, and we have no-one of any experience to step up in a caretaker role whilst get a new management team in place.

I still think Gibson sees Woodgate as the long-term answer, and if so we have to learn from the Venables appointment and how it ended Robson's time at the club. I'd get someone in behind the scenes to assist Woodgate, and keep him as the figure head. Get the best we can and pay good money for a job done (ie. avoid relegation). Give them responsibility in the role. It has to be better than Woodgate taking informal phone calls from Holloway. Maybe Holloway is the man even, not that I'd have him anywhere near to first choice.

The problem with that is that most jobless managers are jobless for a reason.

I don't see why he has this attitude. It's normal to buy out a players contract, why not a manager?

It may not be 'nice' but it's a tough business so you gotta be tough.

Some of them never return to management, look at Alan Curbishley, mentioned for every job for the last 12 years, ended up as Technical Director at Fulham for a season or 2 and never came back as a manager.

Sometimes it takes a while to get a club going in the right direction, most managers find it tough at the start unless like Big Jack the teams already there. Other like Ferguson almost got the boot. Some build as time goes on.

Some do well like Mourinho but the fans wont accept lesser trophies and now they win nowt and he lands another top job and gets money for old rope.

I remember before Gibson was at the Boro we were a roaring success weren't we:ROFLMAO:

Patience Grasshopper.

I don't really care that he might turn it around this season, which I take to mean we merely survive, because I am 100% confident that we will ever achieve anything with Woodgate as manager. We might "get by" for the rest of this season and maybe next but then halfway through the following season it will be undeniable that we are going nowhere and have to change it. We might as well do it now. I just don't see him having the capacity for learning and improving. Some people are obvious leaders and even with a lack of intelligence can inspire but Woodgate isn't even that.

Hughton saiod before Woodgate was chosen that he would not be interested in managing Boro.

Ifg we want to stay up I suppose our man is A-lardass
