Who next through the door

I'd be disappointed to see him go, but he's a sellable asset and it might allow for reinforcements in positions we're weaker in.

McNair heading to Stoke apparently, in advanced talks
Every time I see Mcnair I always think he has a lot more to give. Maybe thats unfair but I expected a lot more from him. You could say that for Howson and Saville as well so I suppose if a bid comes in for one of them you’re going to have to take it to add something different. We cannot go with the same midfield 3 again. They just dont compliment each other.

Good luck to McNair but I don’t think it has really worked out for him at the Boro.

There is a player in there somewhere and we saw glimpses of it from time to time but value for money? I’m not sure.

To be honest I've been constantly underwhelmed by him. He's had a few decent games for us, but he seems to be one where his game has suffered from not having a nailed down position.

I liked him as a RCB, at RB & CM I used to get frustrated most games as he didn't seem to maintain his position as I expected.

I hadn't seen loads of him at Sunderland, but I expected a box-to-box midfielder with a decent goal threat. If we can get our money back, and his fairly high salary off the books I'd be happy to let Warnock reinvest those funds to strengthen us.

Hoping we have a few signings in the immediate pipeline if we're selling McNair.

Soften the blow.

Of all our midfielders I'd be most disappointed to see McNair leave.

We've lacked one that gets up and beyond the play and chips in with a few goals and he does that.

Hes inconsistent for sure, but goalscoring midfielders are not easy to find.

I'm another who'd be disappointed to see him go. He's a talented player who is good watch when he performs. Good finisher too and still young.

But I suppose it's about the bigger picture. He's inconsistent and if the manager believes the fee and savings on wages can be used to make us stronger as a team then so be it. He's probably our most saleable midfielder, bar perhaps Tav. Might also mean we don't have to sell any others in or about the starting 11. If we can find a buyer for Britt that might be all we need to do in terms of outgoings.

I can't believe anyone would seriously suggest Hugill. He was awful when he was here. He was there to hold the ball up but he fell over at every opportunity and his first touch wasn't good enough to hold anything up. No strength, no control, no pace and finishing was rubbish. He had a decent season with QPR but I don't think he is any better than bottom half standard, not what we want. I can't see Juke or Rhodes being good signings either.

I'm not usually one for going back and buying former players but if we do then I'd want it to at least be players that were good when they were here.

I don’t think Hugill was as bad as Boro Mike thinks above but I agree you shouldn’t go back, we need new blood.
Plus just because Bola and Browne didn’t work out doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be looking at lower league players, we’ve had plenty of others who have done very well.

If it means we keep hold of Tav then fair enough. Personally I'd prefer to let Wing go and keep him. I think he has the potential to get just as many goals as Wing - albeit different type of goals, but has more to his all round game. I agree he can be very inconsistent at time though. It's almost like he doesn't realise how much power he has in his boots and has a habit of smashing set pieces and passes out of play.

If Internet transfer / club finances sites are to be believed (I know!) then Wing is meant to be on £2k a week and McNair is meant to be on £20k a week.

So it makes sense for us to move him off the wage bill if we can. If we also move Britt on I think that is the last of the 'big' earners off our books.
