Whitby - pubs/restaurants

After my trip abroad for this weekend was binned, we are off to Whitby instead.

Fish and chips on the menu, but can't eat that 3 days on the bounce. Any recommendations for places to eat, and also any decent pubs with real ales?

TIA

I'm an expert on pubs :)

Black Horse on Church Street is my absolute favourite. Quite small but very quaint.
Hoegaarden and Leffe Blond available on tap and changing craft keg beers.

The best fish and chips are in Trenchers, but they’re also fantastic in the Star on the Harbour, if you want something a bit different. As is the rest of the menu. Very reasonably priced too.

Plenty of places for a cuppa/coffee and a slice of cake, but Botham‘s on Belle Vue Terrace is always very good.

Lass I work with is going with 10 other lasses for her 25th birthday tomorrow. Best of luck if you run into that lot in any of the pubs!

The Waiting Room is great for a decent selection of Ales and Ciders no music just friendly folk, for a bite to eat beyond Fish and Chips try Beckett's Coffee Shop in Skinner Street wonderful cakes and fabulous soups. Rusty Shears in Silver Street for Gin, Coffee and Cake. All dog friendly if that is important or a no-no for you.

We recently had a nice roast in the White Horse and Griffin. The fish and chips also looked good. We couldn't get in the Star on the Harbour (same guy who owns the Star Inn Harome).

Green Dragon is a good little bottleshop with micropub, and then there's the brewery up next to the abbey.

Avoid Middle Earth, there’s right weirdos go in that place - Borofur is spot in about the Black Horse though, it’s a great pub and you’ll get good welcome

Humble Pie & Mash Black pudding and pork pies with mushy peas and gravy is exceptional. Hungry thinking about it

Ditto is a very good place to eat in Whitby and if you have a walk down to Sandsend the Bridge Cottage Bistro is also very good.

Went to The Quirky Den and the Waiting Room last night. Preferred the latter.

Fish and chips last night so something different this evening. Ditto is shut I believe so might see what the Star is like.

Thanks for the recs.

Cheap beer - Plough, Jolly Sailors, Spoons
Live music - Little Angel, Station
DJ- Hart
Reasonably priced English food - Granby
Pricey restaurants - everywhere.
Best walk - along the beach to Sandsend/ Boggle Hole to RHB.
Night Club - there's only one.

Brilliant place for a weekend regardless.
